Mirror Image And Other Stories, Amanda Inman Mull
Mirror Image And Other Stories, Amanda Inman Mull
Theses & Honors Papers
The purpose of this thesis is to shed light on the lifestyle and struggles of poor, country people. In my collection of short stories, Mirror Image and Other Stories, I write working-class characters who must learn to survive while working at low-paying jobs. Many of these stories examine how frequently poor, country people are viewed by society as under-educated or unattractive due to their dialect or wardrobe, and how much of a negative effect these miss-perceptions can have on the individual. Often, my characters decide through their actions, to negotiate their beliefs, desires, obligations and selves as a way to …

Shanghai Quartet With Ying Huang, Soprano, Office Of Arts + Cultural Programming, Peak Performances At Montclair State University
Shanghai Quartet With Ying Huang, Soprano, Office Of Arts + Cultural Programming, Peak Performances At Montclair State University
2012-2013 Exceptions Rule: No Compromise
Through two dynamic programs, the Shanghai Quartet celebrates their 30th anniversary by demonstrating the amazing breadth of repertoire that has become the group’s hallmark. In the fall, the group collaborates with cellist Jan Vogler to perform Franz Schubert’s breathtaking String Quartet in C Major. In the spring, internationally renowned soprano Ying Huang joins the Quartet in performing Chinasong, a spectacular mix of traditional and popular Chinese folk music written and arranged by Shanghai Quartet violinist Yi-Wen Jiang. Together, both programs represent the special east-meets-west style that has become the touchstone of the Shanghai Quartet’s illustrious career.

Transcending Tragedy: Shifting Tragedy From The Individual To Society At Large In Shakespeare's Coriolanus, Steve Kesler
Transcending Tragedy: Shifting Tragedy From The Individual To Society At Large In Shakespeare's Coriolanus, Steve Kesler
Student Works
One of the many parameter that Aristotle placed on tragedy when he defined the genre was that it exists only in the individual. The plethora of tragedies that have been written since have largely followed this rule. While many of William Shakespeare's tragedies follow the rules as defined by Aristotle his Roman tragedies, written later in his career, tend to challenge and expand the basic ideas of the genre. Specifically looking at Coriolanus I argue that Shakespeare transcended the classic idea of tragedy established by Aristotle by taking away the emphasis on the individual and placing it on society as …

A Machine’S Idea Of Sight: The Technico-Sensory Divide In The Human Use Of Imaging Devices, Adam Dean
Theses and Dissertations
This study explores the human and technical limitations of looking and seeing. It proposes a model for design that expands technical sight toward harmony with our human notion. It proposes a model for design that expands technical sight toward harmony with our human notion. This study is guided by the phenomenological experience of being expressed primarily by Heidegger as well as neuro-physiological research on the mind and body relationship by Ramachandran, Sacks Nicolelis and Damasio.
