I’m fascinated by the strengths and weaknesses of ceramic and metals. Traditionally ceramic objects have had a sense of sturdiness, as do industrial metals. My interest stems from utilizing both materials’ plasticity to my advantage. My work juxtaposes these concepts by embracing the fragility of both materials in a playful manner. This allows me to transform a static linear piece of metal or wire mesh into an undulating organic shape with curves and cast shadows that change from every angle. To accomplish this, I use small gauge wire mesh and thinly applied high fire paper clay, nylon clay, or Egyptian …

This project is a research paper on the history and evolution of film trailers beginning in the 1910s. The author mentions how trailers are directed towards different demographics. Different movie trailers such as King Kong, The Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Psycho, and Easy Rider and many others are used as examples throughout the paper. The era from the 50’s to the 70’s is thoroughly discussed as being a transitional period. Additionally, the paper touches base on the political events that occurred and how they affected films topics. The project includes a journal of the author’s journey through the …

Art Therapy With Children: Examining Three Different Populations And Identifying The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Art Therapy, Alyssa Barrios

Literature review of art therapy research among three different populations of children: children with disabilities, attachment quality with children and their caregivers, and childhood offenders. This study inspects the methods, effectiveness, and the rationale for the use of art therapy within three various populations suggesting that the use of art therapy has benefits and efficiencies. The benefits refer to childhood offenders, who developed a better self-image and interaction skills, and children with attention deficit disorders, who learned to maintain their impulse control and collaborate with others. The inefficiencies refer to children with epilepsy, who did not display any change in …

Carruthers And Constitutive Self-Knowledge, John C. Hill

In his recent book, The Opacity of Mind, Peter Carruthers advances a skeptical theory of self-knowledge, integrating results from experimental psychology and cognitive science. In this essay, I want to suggest that the situation is not quite as dire as Carruthers makes it out to be. I respond to Carruthers by advancing a constitutive theory of self-knowledge. I argue that self-knowledge, so understood, is not only compatible with the empirical research that Carruthers utilizes, but also helps to make sense of these results.

In his Century Cycle of plays, August Wilson tells ten distinct stories of families in or linked to the Hill District, an African American community in Pittsburgh; one play taking place in each decade of the twentieth century. Through these plays, Wilson's audience sees the Hill District and America evolve, while prejudice, oppression, and poverty remain constant. Many scholars argue that sexism provides a fourth common factor, asserting that Wilson portrays the female characters in the male-fantasized, stereotypical roles of the Mammy or the Jezebel figure, rather as realistic, empowered, and complex women.
