The hotel has the Brasserie One Restaurant where the philosophy is to serve simple, sensibly priced dishes sometimes rustic, sometimes classic using the freshest of local ingredients. Brasserie One is a true classic Irish brasserie with strong French influences and the use of Irish artisan produce where possible.

Philosophy Faculty Research and Scholarship

Highly idealized models, such as the Hawk-Dove game, are pervasive in biological theorizing. We argue that the process and motivation that leads to the introduction of various idealizations into these models is not adequately captured by Michael Weisberg’s taxonomy of three kinds of idealization. Consequently, a fourth kind of idealization is required, which we call hypothetical pattern idealization. This kind of idealization is used to construct models that aim to be explanatory but do not aim to be explanations.

This article explores the revival of silent film tropes, particularly silent-era melodrama, in the later films of Mikhail Kalatozov. Kalatozov, a Soviet filmmaker who began his career at the tail end of the silent era, created several masterful works in the post-Stalin era that conspicuously hark en back to Soviet cinema of the 1920s, most significantly The Cranes are Flying and I Am Cuba. The aim of this paper is to compare the rhetorical functions gathered from the citations of (14) fourteen master´s theses written by seven Spanish and seven Philippine authors. A typology of nine categories was used in order to identify the cultural rhetorical differences that exist in the use of citation from the contrast between contrasting this element in the Philippine and Spanish cultures. The methodology used is textual analysis of the linguistic context of these citations and its subsequent classification within these nine categories. The results show that there are quantitative and qualitative differences between the cultural conventions of citations …

Paul Hindemith's Konzertmusik fur Blasorchester continues to be a standard in the wind band repertoire both because of its complexity and historical context. Although the piece is not played as much as other works by the same composer, it has withstood the test of time and continues to do so because of its merit and respect from conductors over the past 80 years. The severity of the global economic crisis has put the spotlight firmly on measuring academic and research performance and productivity, and assessing its contribution, value, impact and benefit. While traditionally, research output and impact was measured by peer-publications and citations, there is increased emphasis on a “market-driven approach”, which favours the bio-, medical and technological sciences, and helped reinforce a disciplinary hierarchy in which arts and humanities research (A&HR) has struggled for attention. I’m fascinated by the strengths and weaknesses of ceramic and metals. Traditionally ceramic objects have had a sense of sturdiness, as do industrial metals. My interest stems from utilizing both materials’ plasticity to my advantage. My work juxtaposes these concepts by embracing the fragility of both materials in a playful manner. This allows me to transform a static linear piece of metal or wire mesh into an undulating organic shape with curves and cast shadows that change from every angle. To accomplish this, I use small gauge wire mesh and thinly applied high fire paper clay, nylon clay, or Egyptian …
