In his February 10, 2012 interview with Robert Ryals, Leonard Hewell “Kip” Carter details growing up in the South during segregation and the Civil Rights Movement, as well as his life as political aide/campaign treasurer to Newt Gingrich. Included are details of his college education at UNC-Chapel Hill – classes, professor, and the Red Scare. Carter shares the history of his friendship and working relationship with Newt Gingrich, the scandals Gingrich faced, and the ultimate end of their relationship. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections Oral History Program.

Have you seen the letter making the rounds on the internet? It's been tough not to see the letter in the past week or so. And it certainly is powerful and meaningful. Jordan Anderson has struck a chord with modern audiences nearly 150 years after he dictated a snide and sarcastic letter to his former master. Reading over the former slave's word, it feels like he tailored his tone for the tongue-in-cheek, breezy style of the virtual world. [excerpt]

Impact Of Bullying Prevention Training On The Knowledge, Attitude, And Behavior Of Pre-Education Majors (Future Trainers), Seriashia J. Chatters

Bullying is a persistent problem that negatively affects the academic performance, and the psychological, social, and emotional well-being of targeted students. Research indicates most bullying is prejudice-based. Bullying and prejudice reduction interventions used in school systems encourage empathy towards the target student to reduce these behaviors, and current national and international interventions recommend focusing on bullies, targets (or victims), and bystanders. Interventions are conducted by individuals (trainers) trained to implement such programs, a model known as train-the-trainer. Teachers and pre-education majors usually volunteer to become trainers. Effectiveness of interventions may depend on the trainees' knowledge, empathy, and adherence to the …

Correspondence, account books, receipts, sermons, drawings, and diaries of the Venable family of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, chiefly John Wesley Venable, Sr. and his wife Fannie and son John, Jr. Of particular interest is an 1839-1839 travel journal kept by John, Sr. while in Florida. Also includes John, Sr.’s sermons and sermon preparation material as well as thirty-nine small diaries documenting his career as an Episcopal priest in Versailles and Hopkinsville. Includes one of John, Sr.’s art sketch books.
