Family Affairs newsletter (2004-2016)
FAMILY AFFAIRS was a free, twice-a-month, social activities newsletter for the GLBTQI (gay/lesbian/bisexual/trans/queer/intersex) community, sent out around the 1st and 15th of each month. It covered the State of Maine only. The list was begun and maintained for many years by Jean Vermette in Bangor, and later operated by Zack Paakkonen of Portland. Over the years it evolved from a social activities newsletter into a business directory, classified ad service, and community bulletin board.

Henry David Thoreau And Health In Nature (Flyer), James Engell
The Idea of Nature Public Lecture Series
As if he had always been looking to the future, Thoreau’s idea of health remains astonishingly relevant. He senses the danger of environmentally-linked and environmentally-caused illness. He promotes wellness of body, mind, and spirit together, which achieves harmony with nature through diet, exercise, sensory contact, and ethical self-reflection. The idea of human health in relation to nature informs all that he wrote and appears repeatedly for two decades throughout his Journal. Yet, he doesn’t devote a whole book, single chapter, or complete essay to it exclusively, perhaps because health and nature connect to so many other concerns. Instead, health linked …

“A Dark Speakyng”: English Translations Of 1 Corinthians 13:12 And What We Can See In Them, Curtis Gruenler
Faculty Presentations
This lecture argues that "through a glass darkly" is a poor translation of a phrase from 1 Corinthians 13:12 and asks how and why the translators of the King James Bible chose it. It locates the origins of the phrase in the Geneva Bible and in the scholarly and theological climate of Calvin's Geneva. In a wider perspective of how this verse has been translated and interpreted, this phrase illustrates larger transitions from medieval to modern and from Catholic to Protestant theological thinking. The best modern English translation of 1 Corinthians 13:12a would be "We see now through a mirror …

Interpreting the Civil War: Connecting the Civil War to the American Public
I trust people who sound like me. I trust people who speak the same language as me. Part of this comes from a simple fact of understanding. I speak very little Spanish, even less French.
But I also speak other languages, and trust people who speak to me in those languages. [excerpt]

Manifestaciones Únicas En Cuerpos Particulares. Lo Extraño De La Caracterización Femenina Y Del Cuerpo Humano En La Esposa De Martin Butchell De Bruno Estañol, Morella Ruscitti
Theses and Dissertations
