Eti‐385 As A Novel Anti‐Emetic Against Drug Induced Emesis, Theresa Fennell, James Lucot, Samantha Spitak, Emily Smith, Teresa Garret
Celebration of Undergraduate & Graduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities Materials
Drugs currently used to prevent emesis (nausea and vomiting) target only one or a few of the pathways used by emetic stimuli to trigger the reflex. Thus, an anti-emetic drug will only be effective against some stimuli. Prior work determined that 8-OH-DPAT (DPAT, a 5-HT1A agonist) was a universally effective anti-emetic. Although DPAT prevented emesis, it also elicited an extreme anxiety response making it unsuitable for therapeutic use. Presently, there exists no universal anti-emetic drug. We tested a proprietary drug developed from DPAT, ETI-385, which successfully prevented emesis in musk shrews against chemotherapy, drug and motion stimuli. For FDA purposes, …

Changing Drink: How The Eighteenth Amendment Significantly Altered The Way People Regard Drink, Michelle Jasinski
Changing Drink: How The Eighteenth Amendment Significantly Altered The Way People Regard Drink, Michelle Jasinski
Honors Theses - Providence Campus
Early nineteenth century Americans embraced a culture of drink that was embedded in all parts of life, including their work, family, religion, traditions, and social relations. Critics of this drink culture succeeded in banning the production and sale of alcohol under the Eighteenth Amendment which lasted from 1919 until 1933. This abrupt transformation dramatically changed American’s drinking habits by forcing the consumption of alcohol into a new culture of secrecy and unlawfulness. By the time the nation’s leaders realized the error of Prohibition, the culture of alcohol and drink had drastically transformed from an integrated part of public life to …

Interpreting the Civil War: Connecting the Civil War to the American Public
Everyone is and has been talking about the Shiloh 150th commemoration, whether it be the NPS event starting this week or the battle reenactment that took place this past weekend. It has been called the 'Antietam of the West.' All the events surrounding its 150th anniversary have been heralded as being one of 'the big ones' this year. Over 23,000 casualties of both sides in two days - a pretty significant and bloody battle. [excerpt]

1-Deoxy-D-Xylulose-5-Phosphate Synthase (Dxs) Mechanistic Study And Its Implication In The Development Of Novel Antibiotics And Antimalarials, Sumit Handa
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Isoprenoids are the largest family of biologically active compounds, synthesized by five carbon subunits namely isopentenyl pyrophosphate (IPP) and dimethylallyl pyrophosphate (DMAPP). For long time the mevalonate-dependent (MVA) pathway has been considered as the sole source of IPP and DMAPP, until recently a new non-mevalonte dependent (NMVA) pathway was discovered. This new pathway utilizes entirely different set of enzymes for isoprenoids synthesis and don't have any homologues in humans. NMVA pathway is the only source of isoprenoids for certain eubacteria, parasite and plants. Absence of the NMVA pathway in higher organisms has opened a new platform for the development of …
A Case Study Of Perspectives On Building School And Community Partnerships, Myrna Lee Hogue
A Case Study Of Perspectives On Building School And Community Partnerships, Myrna Lee Hogue
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
A strong partnership between a school and the surrounding community leads to school success. Schools can be more successful with community involvement and engagement than if functioning in isolation. Community engagement leads to greater academic achievement of students.
Utilizing qualitative case study methods, this study focused on the perspective of school and community partners on building relationships. The purpose of this study was to describe and explain selected participants' perspectives on how a school builds partnerships with the community. I studied the relationship between an elementary school and community partners that have been in existence for at least three years …

Temporal And Spatial Analysis Of Monogenetic Volcanic Fields, Koji Kiyosugi
Temporal And Spatial Analysis Of Monogenetic Volcanic Fields, Koji Kiyosugi
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Achieving an understanding of the nature of monogenetic volcanic fields depends on identification of the spatial and temporal patterns of volcanism in these fields, and their relationships to structures mapped in the shallow crust and inferred in the deep crust and mantle through interpretation of geochemical, radiometric and geophysical data.
We investigate the spatial and temporal distributions of volcanism in the Abu Monogenetic Volcano Group, Southwest Japan. E-W elongated volcano distribution, which is identified by a nonparametric kernel method, is found to be consistent with the spatial extent of P-wave velocity anomalies in the lower crust and upper mantle, supporting …

Monumental metal sculpture that incidentally creates sound. Heaviness and lightness displayed via large, heavy, metal sculptures of abstract geometric forms suspended from the ceiling by seemingly fragile wires that not only appear to defy gravity but provide tonal expression when plucked, hammered, or bowed. Further conversation associated with the micro to the macro is easily revealed when the sounds and shapes are compared to the vibration of life identified with imagined subatomic movement.

Interrogating Grenadian Masculinities And Violence Against Women: An Evaluation Of The United Nations Partnership For Peace Program, Rohan Dexter Jeremiah
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This applied anthropology study, guided by a feminist perspective and in particular, Black Feminist Thought is an outgrowth of an evaluation study of the Partnership for Peace Program (PFP) in Grenada, West Indies. The PFP is a Caribbean-specific model that was built into a sixteen-week cycle program by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UNWomen). Since 2005, the PFP has been geared towards Grenadian men, who have used violence against women to express their masculine identities. PFP focuses exclusively on rehabilitating male perpetrators with a goal to protect the human rights of women. This research …

Bubbles, Drops, And Streams: A Flow Visualization Cell, Said Shakerin
SOECS Exhibitions
The goal of this activity was to develop an interactive flow visualization cell to demonstrate dynamic interaction between two fluids, olive oil and air, each occupying one half of the cell. The goal was met and a museum quality unit was created as shown in Figure 1 (download document to view). Thanks to Dean Brigid Welch’s support, the unit is installed at the University Library next to the Information Commons for the campus community to enjoy the inherent beauty and appreciate complexity of fluid flow.
