Manuscript Collection Finding Aids

Finding aid and scans (Click on "Additional Files" below) for Manuscripts Small Collection 768. Copies of weaving drafts (11 items), with one bearing the above date. Beatrice Richards collected the drafts from her roommate’s family (the Detons) while a student at Berea College. The drafts are believed to be of Scottish origin and to have been brought to the Glasgow- Edmonton area of Kentucky when the family migrated from North Carolina. The drafts bear the names Double Bow Knot, Flower of the Mountain, the Honey Comb and Nine Dimons, Tennessee Trouble, Union Cross Roads, and World's Wonder.

Graham, Bowling Green, Kentucky, to Governor Joseph Desha, requesting his assistance in funding the Southern College of Kentucky, which had been operating for three years in Bowling Green. Also included are photocopies of a (Bowling Green) Times-Journal article, 21 July 1937, concerning the educational history of Bowling Green and a 1969 paper by Ward C. Sumpter titled “Early Schools and Colleges of Warren County.”

Capstone Collection

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is considered the most segregated city in the country and has the most disproportionate rate of minorities in Wisconsin’s juvenile justice system. The State of Wisconsin recognizes disproportionate minority contact (DMC) is a product of both differential offending by minorities and the racist differential processing by the juvenile justice system. Milwaukee’s residents are locked in a conflict about the role of racism in the high rates of minority crime and whether to address DMC with more stringent punishment or increasing alternatives to incarceration. Shanghai Quartet With Jan Vogler, Office Of Arts + Cultural Programming, Peak Performances At Montclair State University

2012-2013 Exceptions Rule: No Compromise

Through two dynamic programs, the Shanghai Quartet celebrates their 30th anniversary by demonstrating the amazing breadth of repertoire that has become the group’s hallmark. In the fall, the group collaborates with cellist Jan Vogler to perform Franz Schubert’s breathtaking String Quartet in C Major. In the spring, internationally renowned soprano Ying Huang joins the Quartet in performing Chinasong, a spectacular mix of traditional and popular Chinese folk music written and arranged by Shanghai Quartet violinist Yi-Wen Jiang. Together, both programs represent the special east-meets-west style that has become the touchstone of the Shanghai Quartet’s illustrious career.
