The Georgia Art Education Association 2011 Member Exhibition Although creativity is a multidimensional, multifaceted complex of ideas, the inspiration and illumination for artworks is often found in the mundane and the ordinary. The works chosen for Unmasking Creativity: Process and Product were evaluated not only for their aesthetic production, but also for the explanation of their creative process. Providing a glimpse into what motivated the artist’s choices offers the viewer a deeper understanding of the work.

Student engagement, development of critical thinking, and fostering original ideas are among the many challenges of online course design. This concern is particularly pertinent for courses in humanities, where the lack of face to face interaction and group discussions needs to be compensated with other methods resulting in similarly successful learning outcomes. Economic theory suggests that inequality between nations is caused by a failure to strike an optimal balance between capital, goods, and labor within a framework of appropriate rules and regulations. This leads to misallocation of a nation's resources - both capital and physical - resulting in distorted use and flow of capital and goods. From Fury To Erasure: Shifting Representations Of Hiv/Aids In Queer Art And Politics, Wendy Mallette, Nick Derda

Symposium on Research and Creative Expression (SORCE)

This paper traces the shifting representations of HIV/AIDS in queer art and politics from the late 1980s until the present. We identify a nonlinear trajectory with three major characteristics: 1) militant and explicit representations of HIV/AIDS and their relation to queer sexuality, 2) memorials that publicize the artists’ personal mourning of their HIV/AIDS-related losses, and 3) HIV/AIDS' near disappearance from queer art and politics. This transition throughout the AIDS crisis to contemporary times relates to an ongoing cultural understanding of sex as private issue, a notion that the works of David Wojnarowicz, the Gran Fury Artist Collective, and Robert Blanchon …

Biondo Flavio was an erudite and prolific humanist writer who began his literary career in the 1430's and continued producing latin works until his death in 1463. Scholars have attributed Biondo with primary roles in the development of archaeology, topography, historical research, historical criticism, and historical periodization. His writings themselves influenced the content and approach of scholars across Europe for centuries.

This thesis is an investigation of a possible new categorization under the speculative fiction umbrella—a genre called palimpsestic novels. Palimpsestic novels are characterized by layers of time in the past, the present, and sometimes the future. In a fantastical setting, often with nonscientific time travel, the layers illuminate and provide contemporary significance to eras of history that have either become blurred or forgotten through time. The formation of a palimpsestic genre will provide an appropriate categorization for some speculative fiction novels that currently are nebulous mixtures of several genres, have no genre classification at all, or would better fit in …

The aim of this thesis is to explore how Esther Tusquets' "Carta a la madre" can be viewed as an evolution of Elia's emotional struggles in her search for forgiveness and closure with her mother in El mismo mar de todos los veranos, and explain why Tusquets would chose to reintroduce these characters (or slight variations of them) to readers close to twenty years later. There are differences that exist between the works and some characters are altered, but my analysis illustrates that "Carta a la madre" is not a continuation of Elia's story, but rather an evolution of the …

I will argue that as the young women in this study approached graduation from high school, writing became a venue to write their identities in a safe space free from the expectations of others. The writing included in this study will show that early-adolescent identities, written from a senior-year perspective, value silence and passivity over confidence and voice. They were eager to use the written space provided to them in an elective writing course to script and negotiate their contradictory identities and ultimately transition into a more informed sense of self. Teaching writing by employing the tools made available by Web 2.0 technology allows students to meet the changing educational requirements for writing with technology. This paper argues that the wiki is a facile tool for teaching academic writing at the college level. It theoretically and pedagogically situates the wiki in a threedimensional rhetorical context. This paper also demonstrates how and why the wiki functions as a collaborative writing tool adhering to a socially constructed view of knowledge. This paper argues that journals do more than simply record individual observations. Using a vitalist conception of writing – one that explicitly acknowledges writing as an ecological act – journals are formed from what literacy theorists call the “scene” of writing. This paper forwards an expanded conception of journal writing, the pedagogical uses of journals, and ways we see all writing, not just journals, as participations with the natural world.

Part I of this essay outlines a neo-Aristotelean theory of political virtue, an instance of virtue generally, that serves as the basis of excellent citizenship in the polis. As such, political virtue contributes its share to the achievement of eudaimonia, or the fulfillment of an individual’s natural, human function. In fact, political virtue is especially important because people are political beings, i.e. they seek the good most comprehensively in the context of association with others. This basic study was designed to explore the conceptualization of prejudice as a form of contextually controlled, derived, and arbitrarily applicable relational responding. Basic studies utilizing RFT methodologies have yielded examples of how stimulus functions of one set of stimuli, such as a stereotyped group, can transform the functions of another stimulus, such as an individual. Priming procedures, as contextual cues, have been used to affect prejudicial responding. Stimuli participating in relational frames have been shown to be sensitive to such priming procedures; however, the role of context in the priming of derived relational responses has not yet been established. …

This thesis presented the research, design and fabrication associated with a unique application of rectenna technology combined with lock-in amplification. An extremely low-power harmonic transponder is conjoined with an interrogator base-station, and utilizing coherent demodulation the Remote Lock-In Amplifier (RLIA) concept is realized. Utilizing harmonic re-radiation with very low-power input, the 1^st generation transponder detects a transmitted interrogation signal and responds by retransmitting the second harmonic of the signal. The 1^st generation transponder performs this task while using no additional power besides that which accompanies the wireless signal. Ad hoc network is intrinsically autonomous and self-configuring network that does not require any dedicated centralized management. For specialized applications such as, military operations, search-and-rescue missions, security and surveillance, patient monitoring, hazardous material monitoring, 4G (4th Generation) coverage extension, and rural communication; ad hoc networks provide an intelligent, robust, flexible and costeffective solution for the wireless communication needs.
