Convergences And Divergences: The Lives Of Swami Abhishiktananda And Raimundo Panikkar, Edward T. Ulrich

Journal of Hindu-Christian Studies

Today the field of Hindu-Christian studies is burgeoning with both advanced scholars and freshly minted PhDs. However, during most of the twentieth century it was rare for a Christian thinker to take non-Christian religions seriously as a meaningful area of theological inquiry. Those who did generally limited themselves to theorizing about these religions in the abstract, rather than engaging with living members of these religions. Five outstanding exceptions were Jules Monchanin, Swami Abhishiktananda, Raimundo Panikkar, Francis Acharya, and Bede Griffiths, all of whom were Catholic priests who settled in India over a sixteen year time period, from 1939 to 1955. …

Francis Clooney's pioneering work first interested me in the practice of comparative reading. Lance Nelson's reflections on the ecological implications of a non-dualism provided a springboard for much of chapter three. Laurel Schneider's radical push toward multiplicity has challenged my constructive thinking. Conversations with Brad Bannon, a new dialogue partner, have generated new springs of insight. Dualities is a serious contribution to Hindu-Christian studies, bringing fresh and challenging materials before us. It wonderfully brings together reflection on feminist concerns, attention to the metaphors by which we identify and organize natural and social realities, and critical attention to how linguistic and ontological categories, such as dualities and dualism, fluidity and fluidities, have effects of ethical and spiritual import.

As John Thatamanil confesses in his Foreward to Michelle Voss Roberts' Dualities, I too, as a nondualist theologian, was initially apprehensive about Voss Roberts' title. However, I quickly came to find that the plural emphasis of dualities and the private emphasis of non-dualism actually speak to similar concerns over the inadequacies of both monism and dualism. The dualism denied by non-dualism and the multiplicity and relationality affirmed by dualities are more harmonious than dissonant.

Store-Operated Calcium Channels In The Function Of Intracardiac Neurons, Timetria Bonds

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Proper autonomic regulation of mammalian cardiac function is dependent upon very complex and precise communication among the intracardiac ganglia and individual neurons within the ganglia. An array of neuromodulators is found within the ganglia that direct neuronal activity by modulating the movement of calcium. The current study determines that opioidergic agonists, which have been found to contribute to severe cardiac disease states and intracellular calcium mobilization, are also responsible for changes in the function of the intracardiac neuron via their effects on store-operated calcium channels (SOCs).

Previous studies suggest that phosphorylation plays a role in SOC regulation. Using Fura-2 calcium …
