The following are excerpts from the Clementine Homilies as translated in the Ante-Nicene Fathers series. The choice, arrangement, and titles of excerpts follows the reconstruction given by Johannes Irmscher and George Strecker in New Testament Apocrypha, 2.531-41. The Kerygmata Petri is known only from the Pseudo-Clementine literature and must be distinguished from the Preaching of Peter quoted by Clement of Alexandria. The Kerygmata Petri is a series of fictional sermons of Peter and his disputations with Simon the Gnostic. Though scanty and fragmentary, the evidence concerning Jewish-Christian sects indicates their practices and beliefs were diverse and that there was not …

Benediction And Malediction In Fulani Culture: Exploring An Afro-Muslim Perception Of The Socio-Spiritual Dimensions Of Success And Failure, Mohamed Camara

This article is a discussion of the Fulani belief in barki (benediction) and kuddi (malediction) in an attempt to show how it informs this deeply religious West African society's perception of success and failure and how, in turn, this perception affects the society's understandings of the political and economic challenges in Africa. Because the Fulani are an Afro-Muslim society, the article is also a discussion of the convergence of indigenous African traditions and Islamic ones as observed in the socio-religious beliefs of the Fulani of Guinea.

IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority
This is the second volume in a series of final reports documenting the large-scale excavations at the site of Maresha, mainly in the Lower City, during the 1980s and 1990s. In the Hellenistic period, Maresha was an important and multi-cultural city. Hellenistic terracottas are a varied and widespread medium of Hellenistic art of a religious and cultic nature. The extensive repertoire presented here, mostly found in residential contexts during the excavations of the mid-1980s to 1996, opens a window onto the city’s culture, religion and daily life. It describes their typology as well as the production methods and techniques.

n July of 1966, a group of Puerto Rican migrant workers protested against police brutality and discrimination in North Collins, a small farm community of western NewYork. Puerto Rican farmworkers made up a substantial part of the population, and had transformed the ethnic, racial, and gender landscape of the town. Local officials and residents produced and reproduced images of Puerto Ricans as inferior subjects within US racial and ethnic hierarchies. Those negative images of Puerto Ricans shaped the way in which local authorities elaborated policies of social control against these farmworkers in North Collins. At the same time, Puerto Rican …

A Reconsideration Of Martín Adán: The Case Of La Casa De Cartón, Maria Spitz

Crides have only intermittently turned their attention to the radically innovative La casa de cartón (1928) by the Peruvian Martín Adán in the academic impulse to re-evaluate the Spanish American hterary canon after a frenzy of Boom and Post-Boom criticism. One possible reason for this relative lack of attention is a tendency by critics to obfuscate the contribution of Adán's only "novel" to the Spanish American literary canon by considering it the work of a writer who rejects social concerns or criticizes the social, without proposing an alternative based on action.' This research booklet examines the effectiveness of drama and theatre practice as a means to promoting peace building and reconciliation within the Irish context. The research considers five drama and theatre projects in Northern Ireland and border counties, which have been designed and delivered to contribute towards peace building and reconciliation.

The Dominicans in New York is a display highlighting the experiences and contributions of the New York Dominican population. This exhibit uses primary source materials from the archival collections of the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute Archives as well as secondary source materials from the Dominican Library including documents, photographs and memorabilia to create a visual history of Dominicans as they developed communities that became integral part of New York’s incredibly diverse human landscape. Definition Of Videogames, Grant Tavinor

Can videogames be defined? The new field of games studies has generated three somewhat competing models of videogaming that characterize games as new forms of gaming, narratives, and interactive fictions. When treated as necessary and sufficient condition definitions, however, each of the three approaches fails to pick out all and only videogames. In this paper I argue that looking more closely at the formal qualities of definition helps to set out the range of definitional options open to the games theorist. A disjunctive definition of videogaming seems the most appropriate of these definitional options. The disjunctive definition I offer here …
