本论文主要考察中国大陆九十年代出现的独立电影的特性，首先从一批年轻的独立电影导演及其作品出发，将它们放在当代大陆城市青年文化的历史脉络中，着重考察独立电影的特殊生产机制以及对“青年”的再现，与“青年”在社会建构中出现的变化之间的关系。然后通过使用民族誌的研究方法，重点考察大陆本土年轻观众对独立电影的接受情况，试图解释为何“边缘”成为当下论述大陆独立电影文化特性的重要话语。本文的主要立论是，“边缘”是由独立电影与城市青年文化在不同层面上互构而成的。

这种互构关系的建立，表现在几个方面：首先，大陆进入商品经济时代，具有整合性的建构青年身份的国家意识形态话语失效，导致了年轻人的迷茫和失落，他们断裂和破碎的身份，通过独立电影在国家制片体系之外的生产和制作模式中被再现出来，被称为“边缘”的特殊个体。其次，大陆独立电影被部分青年影迷用来对抗互联网上出现的话语资源垄断和话语权威，从而确立“业余爱好 者”、“草根”等被称为“边缘”的身份。最后一个方面，即是作为影迷的城市青年对不同观影场所和对独立电影不同消费方式的选择，建立了在电影院线、个人在家庭观看影碟等主流渠道以外的，被称为“边缘”的观影方式，但这种方式又不可避免的会引起影迷的身份焦虑。

唐滌生於一九五四至一九五九年間，多次改編古典文學作品，推敲增刪，把經典轉化為另一部經典。戲曲早已是中國文學中不能或缺的一部份，而粵劇作為戲曲文學的一員，當中亦不乏傳世佳作。適逢五、六十年代是香港粵劇的鼎盛之年，既造就唐滌生編劇之能，唐滌生也以劇作的文學價值成就粵劇。

本文以道德教化作討論軸心，探勘唐滌生如何改編古典名著。第一章導言， 先論改編作品的價值及釐清本文方向，繼而按劇分章論述其改編之法；第二章以主題的轉換探討唐滌生如何改編《牡丹亭》成《牡丹亭驚夢》；第三章是〈《琵 琶記》：天人不甚感應〉，研讀唐滌生對傳統理念的存疑及更動；第四章以敘事結構的改換閱讀《六月雪》；第五章：〈《帝女花》：隱含的忠孝精神〉，細察唐滌生如何透過寫作手法改寫文本，不動聲色地傳述忠孝精神；人物是劇作家的代言人，模塑兼具個性與感情的人物卻殊不容易，第六章即以此為題開展討論《香 囊記》；第七章以劇作討論的基礎重申改編的價值，並以肯定唐滌生作品的地位作結。

1980 年代以來，女性主義話語(Feminist Discourse)在中國當代婦女研究的引入與發展，無疑是 跟中國內地的再度現代化同步的，它既是中國現代化進程的時代產物，同時也這個現代化大計 的其中一個非常重要的構成部分。事實上，除了為新時期的中國人民帶來現代性的想像外(例如 西方女性主義話語的「性別平等」觀念以及科學性格)，女性主義話語亦實際上夾帶著「主體」、 「個體自由」等作為現代性標記的概念。

本論文將會借助知識考古學的方法(Archaeology of Knowledge)，透過話語分析(Discourse Analysis)，探討改革開放以來對女性主義話語的接受、建構與變遷，尤其是其間種種的文化協 商。本論文將會把焦點集中在中國當代婦女研究的頭兩個發展階段(1980 年代初至1993 年、1993 至2000 年)，從中分別抽取在中國當代女性主義話語中的一系列關鍵概念(key concepts)，透過 一些具有分析意義或重要的相關話語事件(discursive events)個案，追溯這個理論旅行的歷史過 程。

本論文提出的主要立論是﹕二十世紀八十年代以來中國當代婦女研究對於女性主義話語的接受 與建構，是一個充滿文化協商的過程，它開始於後文革與改革開放的雙重語境之中，面對中國 社會主義的遺產與債務，其間障礙重重，無法得到真正的開展，而直至1995 年聯合國第四次世 界婦女大會的舉行、聯合國成員國對《北京宣言》、《行動綱領》等兩份全球性的綱領文件的簽 定，契機才逐漸出現。可以這麼說，在這一個文化協商的過程中，借著歷史性的契機，中國當 代婦女研究透過對於女性主義話語的接受和建構，在新自由主義邏輯與社會主義的既有體制之 間，在話語以至體制上，為現實中的婦女以及自身建構了一個廻轉與生存的環境。

Recent studies of globalization provide contrasting views of the cultural and sociopolitical effects of such major corporations as Disney as they invest transnationally and circulate their offerings around the world. While some scholars emphasize the ubiquity of Disney’s products and its promotion of consumerism on a global scale, accompanied by cultural homogenization, faltering democracy, and diminishing state sovereignty, others highlight signs of contestation and resistance, questioning the various state-capitalist alliances presumed to hold in the encounter between a global company, a local state, and the people.

五十年代的香港逐漸出現不同類型的綜合性文化刊物，而由右派機構如友聯出版社所編的一系列學生刊物，對香港以至東南亞一帶的文藝發展有深遠的影響。友聯編輯出版的報刊包括《祖國周刊》、《大學生活》、《中國學生周報》(以下簡稱《周報》)以及《兒童樂園》，儘管它們的編輯方針有不同的取向，但是其中以學生為名的兩份，最初的共同目標都是為流亡於東南亞一帶的中國青年而編，透過文化宣傳凝聚青年力量，並為他們指引「正確」 的升學出路。

本研究以五十年代的《周報》文藝版為例，是由於這段時期最能代表當代香港青年如何受到學生報刊的影響。他們參與學生報刊的園地，其中不同的時期的發展，都能夠體現香港文藝的各種特點。而且《周報》本身的跨地域發展，影響遍及整個東南亞，其代表性更遠超其他學生報刊，對往後種種文化討論提供重要研究資料。

本研究的第一章會先解釋研究概況、方法和範圍，並闡明文藝版的定義。 第二章以宏觀的角度，整理和分析編輯方針與文藝發展的關係。第三章梳理和探討《周報》文藝版如何保存中國傳統文化。第四章則分析不同時期的西方文藝介紹工作，並歸納當中的文藝特質。第五章探討文藝版的學生創作版， 歸納和分析不同時期的文藝風氣。最後第六章是總結，嘗試評定《周報》文藝版的價值和貢獻。

The intent of the study was to investigate how women in hard (engineering, mathematics, computer science, physical science) and soft (social, psychological, life sciences) sciences differ from each other among a set of variables known to influence educational attainment and to evaluate how well Weidman's undergraduate socialization model explains higher education's influence on women in science and engineering fields. Using the Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (1996-2001), descriptive discriminant analysis and multivariate analysis of variance were used to identify differences among the women, and structural equation modeling was used to evaluate Weidman's model. Four hundred and fifty three undergraduate students were surveyed at one CCCU institution regarding perceptions of what “exists” and what they “value” related to university pedagogy, learning activities, assessments, and learning relationships. Researchers ranked students’ values and examined gaps in students’ perceptions of what students say exists at the university as compared to what they value. The highest ranked values primarily related to learning relationships, including “demonstrates Christian ethics in interactions with others” and “integrates Christian worldview in the teaching of course content.” The factor that most explained satisfaction with teaching practices was the “Methods Factor” and the single item …

Teacher education is of critical concern to a nation’s well-being. Scripture clearly identifies that the predominant narratives in a nation’s education are directly linked to its citizen’s behaviour (e.g., see Psalm 78, Judges 2). Literature which claims that teacher education has little influence on beliefs that pre-service teachers bring to their initial teacher education may unnerve Christian teacher educators who seek to equip teachers to make a difference in the lives of children and parents in a nation (Berry, 2004; Fletcher, 1997; Hatton & Smith, 1995; Lowery, 2003). Research has shown that what one reads can be an important factor in developing one’s worldview. This paper will report my thoughts about experiences I had while reading aloud-challenging texts in two Christian school classrooms. My goal for the read alouds was to have students think about issues related to justice, love, and commitment as they apply to both the family and the larger community. Various types of response methodologies (written, art, drama, discussion) were used to encourage students to build connections between what they learned, to what is the appropriate response and action.

This thesis is an examination of the unique conditions for African-descended slaves in St. Augustine, Florida, during the First Spanish Period. St. Augustine was an important garrison at a remote point in the Spanish Empire at the edge of a hostile frontier. As such, economics were less a priority than defense. Slaves, therefore, received different treatment here than in English colonies or even other Spanish colonies. Due to the threat of Protestantism, religious adherence was more important as a test of loyalty than ethnicity and slaves and freed-people were able to integrate better than in other Spanish holdings. This study examines the evolution of the popular images of John Brown and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. It begins by analyzing the historiography of each man. The second and third chapters are biographies of each man. The fourth, fifth, and sixth chapters examine the popular images of the two men in print media, visual media, and monuments. This thesis concludes with appendices which contain reproductions of songs, photographs, and paintings referred to in the chapters. Taxation without representation was one of the foundations that the Continental Congress used as a basis for Independence from England. But when the revolution ended and the Republic was formed, the United States adopted many English laws and traditions regarding the status of women. This study explores the ways cookbooks and their rhetorical dimensions have been re-imagined using hypertext and Web technology. Using the tenets of postmodern feminist rhetoric and Web design theory, the study considers how commercial cooking hypertexts construct users' identities. Although hypertext is a potentially empowering technology, democratizing rhetoric and knowledge making practices, commercial hypertext often circumscribes agency formation and prohibits participation. Participatory, constructive hypertexts are difficult to design and costly to maintain. Of the three sites studied, Epicurious.com, BettyCrocker.com, and FoodNetwork.com, only Epicurious.com encourages meaningful communication between users and between users and designers. This thesis examines the Kennedy Administration's decision to propose comprehensive civil rights legislation in June, 1963. The work focuses on the relationship between the Kennedy brothers, particularly on Robert F. Kennedy's position as his brother's main adviser and his influence on the president's final decision to go forward with legislation. It begins by exploring the Kennedy's childhood, then traces the brothers' approach toward civil rights during the campaigns of 1952 and 1960, and concludes with an assessment of the Kennedy administration's civil rights policy during his presidency.
