William “Bill” Anthony (1926-1989) was arguably one of the most influential bookbinders and conservators in the US. His impact cannot be measured by his work alone but also by his legacy as demonstrated by all those he trained, many of whom are now leaders in the field in their own right. Lawrence Yerkes’ forward and Helen Ryan’s introduction to the catalog describe not only Anthony’s life and work, but also the emotional bond they had with him and his spirit that touched so many.

A Modular Onboard Processing System For Small Unmanned Vehicles, Richard D. Garcia

This work describes the design and implementation of a generic lightweight onboard processing system for miniature Unmanned Vehicles (UVs) that is computationally powerful and highly adaptable. First, several classical approaches to giant scale and full size UV onboard processing systems are described along with their corresponding limitations. Second, a detailed study is presented that describes the key characteristics of an onboard system along with associated limitations. Next, an implementation of a generic onboard system capable of vision processing and servo based control is presented along with detailed hardware specifications and implementation software. This thesis explores the existence of an identified author in relation to a text and how this identity and recognition thereof affects the way the work is perceived in the realm of literary criticism and by the law. The study covers how modern literary critics, such as Foucault and Barthes, viewed the author in relation to his work, and what role this bestowed on the reader/audience of the work. It also sheds light on theories about the identity of the "original" author of such monumental works as the Iliad and Odyssey, Shakespeare's plays, and T.S. Eliot's Wasteland. Lastly, the study …

This thesis demonstrates three kinds of the Absolute and three different ways of approaching them. Farid Ud-Din Attar, Kate Chopin and Theodore Roethke take different roads to reach their Absolute. Similarities among the three works tackled in this thesis are represented by the role of nature in the spiritual journey to attain a mystical identity, and by having an ultimate goal of the journey called the "Absolute" . The purpose of this thesis was to find out what were the types of strategies employed by American learners of Arabic as a second language and Egyptian native speakers of Arabic, to perform the speech act of refusal. The Muradiye And Imaret Mosques In The Context Of Early Ottoman Filibe: Two Case Studies, Elena Chardakliyska

The two mosques remaining in present-day Plovdiv, Bugaria or Ottoman Filibe are the Muradiye and Imaret mosques. The Murndiye Mosque, also known as the Ctm1a (or Friday) mosque built in ca. 1435 and the Imaret Mosque, founded in 1444, represent an important period of the history of the town vis-a-vis its transformation into an important urban center in the Ottoman province of Rumeli. The Imaret Mosque is an example of a reserve T-shaped imnret/zaviye which was surrounded by a charitable complex. It is also the monument whose study is more challenging because of the uncertainties posed by its changing functions. …

Music And Moral Geographies: Constructions Of "Nation" And Identity In Singapore, Lily Kong

In this paper, I attempt to pull together sociological and geographical perspectives in the study of music to understand the ways in which pop and rock music are socio-cultural products with political and moral meanings and implications. I examine state engineering of moral panics, focusing on a case study of pop and rock music in post-independence Singapore. Such engineering is aimed at political and ideological ends, in particular, "nation"- building outcomes. In engineering moral panics through both discursive and legislative acts, the contours of a moral geography are delineated at various spatial scales. First, at the scale of the national …

This research deals with four different Arab news satellite Television, particularly three different live political programs broadcast on each of Al Jazeera (The Island), Al Manar (The Beacon), Al Arabiya (The Arabia) and Al Hurra (The Free One). Altered States Of Reality: The Theme Of Twinning In David Lynch's Lost Highway, Alan Edward Green Jr.

As a postmodern director, David Lynch makes films which are innovative, evocative, and uniquely his own. The theme of twinning, in particular, is recapitulated throughout the director's oeuvre; however, it is with Lost Highway that the thematic element he addresses takes center stage. The film's main character Fred Madison (Bill Pullman) is unable to cope with the trauma in his life. After killing his wife and finding himself on death row, he has a parallel identity crisis; he manages a metamorphosis into a younger, virile Pete Dayton (Balthazar Getty). The method which allows this transformation is the psychogenic fugue: a …
