Someone new to the Pacific Northwest and seeing the Columbia River for the first time could have no idea what the Great River of the West looked like before the building of the big dams. The Columbia's character and its muscle are generally hidden from view, deep in the old river channel and in the guts of machines that span the river like stair steps, from Bonneville Dam near Portland to Mica Dam at the river's far northern turn in British Columbia.

Relevant Indigenous Disciple-Making In The Evangelical Church Of West Africa (Ecwa): A Case Study Of The Kaninkon People In Nigeria, Bauta D. Motty

The Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) today is in dire need of a relevant indigenous disciple-making model, with methods that are culturally-relevant and biblically affirmed, to mature its members. Acknowledging the strong legacy of evangelism from its parent organization, the Sudan Interior Mission [SIM] now known as Serving in Mission. ECWA must go beyond using inherited Western discipleship programs developed at the national level that have proven ineffective among ethnic groups. This dissertation introduces an indigenous "discipling" model-Christian socialization-as an important strategy for maturing members at the local level. Simplicity, Or The Terror Of Belief: The Making And Unmaking Of The Self In Early Christian Monasticism, Douglas E. Christie

The article focuses on ancient Christian monasticism. The simplicity admired and practiced by the early Christian monks, so often construed as a first order naiveté or credulity devoid of depth or subtlety, in fact contained and expressed a complex range of thought and feeling. More than this, it was, at least in its most mature expressions, a hard won achievement, realized only through a costly and demanding process of relinquishment. Ancient Christian monks actually did realize on occasion a simplicity that embodied a beautiful freedom and transparency. But such simplicity rarely came to expression in a life except through intense …
