Lutheran Day School Operation: Financial Stewardship Implications, Thomas Radtke Mar 2005

Lutheran Day School Operation: Financial Stewardship Implications, Thomas Radtke

Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project

In addressing this problem as it faces Trinity Lutheran Church, the writer will survey other schools and determine the method that each congregation uses to fund the operation of its day school. My premise from the outset is that some of these day schools use the traditional means of funding through congregational offerings while others use member tuition as a major factor in the funding of their day schools. The purpose of this exercise is to evaluate the methods used and make application to Trinity for the best method of funding their day school operation.

Review Of Reconsidering Feminist Research In Educational Leadership. Michelle D. Young, & Linda Skrla (Editors)., Mark A. Giesler Mar 2005

Review Of Reconsidering Feminist Research In Educational Leadership. Michelle D. Young, & Linda Skrla (Editors)., Mark A. Giesler

Journal of Women in Educational Leadership

Reconsidering Feminist Research in Educational Leadership is rich feminist food for thought for both the novice and experienced researcher. Dubbed as "a critical reflection on the field of feminist research in educational leadership as a whole" (p. 3), the work is a three-part collection of articles edited by Michelle D. Young and Linda Skrla. In Part 1, four authors expose methodological dilemmas that "contradict and unsettle the foundational beliefs of many feminist researchers" (p. 4). Part 2 explores alternative, expanded methodologies based on the criticisms of Part 1. Part 3 is an application of the "reconsidered methods and epistemolgies" (p. …

First Women, Marilyn L. Grady, Barbara Y. Lacost Mar 2005

First Women, Marilyn L. Grady, Barbara Y. Lacost

Journal of Women in Educational Leadership

Perhaps those who write about women leaders should frame their works by referring to First Women. Certainly much of the writing about women and their leadership is groundbreaking. We are at the beginning stages of writing about women in leadership and women who are "firsts" in many of their accomplishments. The manuscripts in this issue of the Journal of Women in Educational Leadership reflect the accomplishments of First Women.

Women In History--Mary Seacole, Bonnie Mckay Harmer

Journal of Women in Educational Leadership

Born in Jamaica in 1805, Mary Seacole (nee Grant), was the daughter of a Black Creole boarding house owner and a Scottish Army officer. Like many Creole doctress women, Mary waS taught African herbal medicine arts from her mother. In addition to understanding traditional herbal medicine, she gleaned an understanding of Western medicine from the British military physicians who were stationed on the island colony. Mother Seacole, as she was affectionately called, garnered an outstanding reputation as a compassionate nurse and a competent doctress as she cared for sick and injured British officers and their families (Seacole, 1988). Widowed by …

Voices Of Women In The Field--The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, Barbara A. Marchese Mar 2005

Voices Of Women In The Field--The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, Barbara A. Marchese

Journal of Women in Educational Leadership

Editor's note: One of the frequently mentioned challenges noted by principals is finding adequate time to complete all the tasks that present themselves. Writing for journals is not on the priority list of most principals. Although Dr. Marchese agreed to "write" an article, in fact the real world of the principalship took precedence over the writing task. This article, then, is the result of a telephone conversation, lunch and a writing "collaboration"-my fingers, her words. (Grady)

Meridians 5:2, Paula J. Giddings

Meridians: Feminism, Race, Transnationalism

"A country like this forces you to find your underground spring to survive," wrote the late South African-born writer Bessie Head. The epigrammatic words, quoted on the cover of her novel When Rain Clouds Gather (1968), refer to Head's adopted home of Botswana; but as is true with all fine writers, her specificity is a loose-fitting garment, a thing that may be worn across a multitude of boundaries....

Design And Evaluation Of A New Authentication Mechanism For Validating The Sender Of An Email, Sai Sakamuri Mar 2005

Design And Evaluation Of A New Authentication Mechanism For Validating The Sender Of An Email, Sai Sakamuri

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

A new authentication mechanism for validating the source of messages over the Internet is designed and evaluated. This mechanism is applied to email and is called Email++. Email++ prevents identity forging (spoofing) and tampering of email contents. By preventing identity forging, Email++ can reduce the amount of spam received and limit the spread of viruses like Melissa, Love Bug, Bagle Worm, and Killer Resume. Email++ validates both the sender and the receiver of an email by confirming the senders identity with the domain mail server that delivered the email for the sender, and authenticates the receiver with hash value comparisons. …

"So Now What?" Using The New Science To Design A Flexible And Adaptable Spiritual Growth Process For New And Returning Believers In The Local Church, Christine A. Prescott Mar 2005

"So Now What?" Using The New Science To Design A Flexible And Adaptable Spiritual Growth Process For New And Returning Believers In The Local Church, Christine A. Prescott

Doctor of Ministry

This dissertation addresses the need for spiritual-growth opportunities in the local church for new adult Christians and those adults who are returning to the church after years of absence. This dissertation will identify concepts from the "new science' of quantum mechanics, chaos theory, and complexity theory to suggest elements for the creation of a flexible and adaptable spiritual-growth process.

I use the New Testament to address two assumptions of the thesis: that the spiritual growth of followers of Jesus Christ is a process of spiritual transformation that rests not a one-time conversion event but occurs over a lifetime of dynamic …
