A Secret Poem For You, Jorge N. Ferrer

In this paper, the author presents a poem entitled “Plenitude.” The poem, originally written by

the author’s father (José Antonio Noguera Gimenez) in Spanish, is offered by the author as a vehicle

for the exploration of self, life, spirit, and nature. Both the Spanish and English versions of the

poem are provided.

"[From the conclusion]: This discussion presents a linked series of hypotheses, each one suggested in its turn by evidence relating directly to C. Duilius (cos. 260), and contextualized by near-contemporary precedents wherever possible, or relevant-seeming analogues from slightly later periods. Taken together, these hypotheses support a plausible scenario in which the elogium on Duilius’ rostral column may be read not only as an account of a cunning and audacious commander whose pioneering efforts in naval warfare destroyed the myth of Carthaginian supremacy at sea, but also as an encomium on a generous benefactor to Rome’s citizenry. Children’s Literature makes a significant contribution to the diverse and dynamic cultural geographies which constitute contemporary Western society. Indigenous children’s literature, in particular, reflects both the way a society likes to see itself and the way it actually is. Not surprisingly, these two visions rarely coincide, although they are constantly under revision in response to the pressures of twenty-first century life. This is evident when a comparative approach is taken to Indigenous children’s literature in such countries as Australia and Canada, whose treatment of their Indigenous peoples is both strikingly similar and remarkably different. This study analyzes Lloyd Alexander's The Prydain Chronicles through a Jungian lens. Previous scholarship on Alexander's works has briefly considered archetypal criticism, but not extensively. Bruno Bettelheim's thoughts are used intermittently throughout the thesis. This study concentrates on Taran's individuation process, the discovery of true selfhood, and his consequent development of a whole psyche.

This thesis presents an analysis and interpretation of Joycean literary devices, narrative techniques and rhetorical strategies that have been integrated by Robert Anton Wilson in his novel Masks of the Illuminati. The author shows how Wilson uses word games of Finnegans Wake and other devices to depict dreams in his novel and "to conceal and reveal a variety of levels of meaning and postcolonial insight" (p. v-iv). Narrative techniques examined include multiple viewpoints, combined words, multi-lingual puns and webs of allusions.

Eight men and five women who identify themselves as gay men and lesbians participated in confidential taped interviews and were assigned pseudonyms. They were asked questions concerning their coming-out process, including their realization of their homosexuality, worries about coming out, family relationships, and changes in their lives. It was assumed that men and women would have different experiences coming out because ofthe different expectations and roles under which they grow up. Following the terrorist activities of September 11, 2001, the United States began weapons inspections in Iraq on November 18, 2002. This decision sparked interest throughout the world, including in France and the United States. By looking at Le Monde and The New York Times and focusing on the first war-related editorial each week from six weeks before and SLX weeks after the bcginning of weapons inspections, one can easily identify the opinions of the editorialists. Maquiladora factories, created in 1965 as part of Mexico's Border Industrialization Program, have become the backbone of economic progress along the United StateslMexico boundary. These factories, largely owned by foreign investors, have drawn thousands ofwomen from Mexico's interiors to work in the area. As a result, globalization and increased foreign investment have created cultural, environmental, and occupational hardships and hazards for female Mexican laborers despite the monetary gains that have resulted from Mexican and United States government programs.

Neither traditional nor modern Norwegian artifacts have received significant critical attention or appreciation in mainstream histories of we stem art or architecture. This lack of cultural exportation has to do with the fact that surveys of art and architecture history, as well as close studies of the modern period, have tended to focus on canonical works, and, often as a result, the artifacts of Norway have been excluded from this mainstream history. The drive home from the Cashtown area home of the Kuhn family was cold and dark, but the twenty-one-year-old medical student was exhilarated. It was after four o'clock on a Monday morning, December 16, 1867. He had just assisted Mrs. Abner (Rebecca) Kuhn deliver her third child, a 14-pound son, the first of over one thousand such deliveries during his medical career. Arriving back at his lodging in the McKnightstown area, he would make the first entry in his obstetrical journal. This neat, detailed journal would eventually hold the record of 1026 cases, most involving families in the Franklin township …
