An Exploration Into Gender Role Conflict, Attitudes Toward Females, And Relationship Beliefs, Julia M. Wood

Gender role conflict and negative attitudes toward females have been areas of increasing concern since the early 1970s. Research has shown that both gender role conflict and negative attitudes toward females cause complications for the person with such perspectives. Relationships are an area that has been impacted by gender role conflict and attitudes toward females. Determining the impact that gender role conflict and attitudes toward females have upon each other and upon relationship beliefs will increase awareness of the seriousness of these complications allowing clinicians to focus therapeutic interventions on methods that will increase relationship quality.

The beginnings and "invention" of knitting has long fascinated knitters and amateur historians. Only recently has it come to be studied seriously, and there is still much folklore and fantasy repeated and published as history.

This paper (and discussion) considers some of the best known and most popular stories about the origins of Shetland and Fair Isle knitting and compares those with more recent considerations of color patterning in northern Europe, especially in the Baltic states and eastern Europe.

Master of Theater Production Graduate Projects

This project entailed the selection, background research and documentation, play analysis, casting, direction, and postproduction analysis of Choice High School's production of Vikki Voss-Shanahan's The Rememberer. Documentation includes research and analysis of the play, and an evaluation of the play as a production vehicle for the department of Theatre Arts at Central Washington University. The analysis also includes a discussion as to the non-traditional directorial vision of this production.

Technology And The 'Self', Ryan Rinn

This project examines the relationship between technology and the self. Based largely on Gergen's (1991, 2000) descriptions of technological immersion and the saturated self, I discuss the ways that modem technologies have come to be a part of self-construction. Survey and focus group data from 63 university students are used to examine types of technological use, talk about technological experience, and self-construction. This paper describes the contradictory ways participants talk about technology, and defines nine themes of self emergence in participant discussion: 1) connection, 2) over-connection, 3) ease/laziness, 4) multitasking, 5) profile stalking, 6) loss of physical presence, 7) empowerment, …

My introduction to documentary editing differs from that of other scholarly editors. They are scholars who became editors; I am an editor who found a project in medical history. With an M.D. degree, I had written many articles on health issues and had edited a medical society journal.

In 1999, I began researching the manuscript of Joseph Mersman (1824-1892), an obscure man who was a whiskey rectifier. From 1847 to 1864, Mersman kept a diary and made entries in English, French, and German. His 300-page record, at the Missouri Historical Society, describes life in Cincinnati and St. Louis, including the …

For the past twenty years, historians have recognized the role that '1' women played in the nineteenth-century abolitionist movement. Works by Gerda Lerner, Nancy Hewitt,jean Fagan Yellin, Clare Taylor, and Maria Diedrich, among others, have demonstrated that women spoke, organized, promoted, and wrote on behalf of the movement to end slavery. Yet, the published volumes of the Frederick Douglass Papers have obscured that fact. Although women supported and often saved Douglass throughout his career, their voices have been conspicuously absent from the seven volumes of the Douglass Papers. Zall, professor emeritus of English at California State University at Los Angeles and research scholar at the Huntington Library, has taken up Washington's invitation "to posterity to think & say what they please" by completing "autobiographies" left unfinished or never written by several preeminent Americans. Lawrence V. Texas: Does This Mean Increased Privacy Rights For Gay And Lesbian Teacher?, Suzanne Eckes, Martha Mccarthy

Journal of Women in Educational Leadership

This article addresses the Supreme Court's 2003 decision in Lawrence v. Texas and its implications for the rights of gay and lesbian public school teachers. The authors provide a context by reviewing the teacher role-model theory, traditional standards used in dismissals for immoral conduct, and pre-Lawrence cases regarding public employees' privacy rights. Then they analyze Lawrence v. Texas, which struck down a Texas law imposing criminal penalties for persons of the same sex engaging in certain sexual conduct. The final section explores implications of the expanded liberty right announced in Lawrence for public school teachers and their lifestyle choices.

"A Singular Position:" Women Professors And Women's Community, Florence A. Hamrick, Julie R. Nelson

Journal of Women in Educational Leadership

Twenty-six professors at a research intensive university participated in this study of senior women professors' career experiences and reflections. Themes surrounding community and collegiality with respect to disciplinary commitment, salience of gender to discipline, and the role of personal choices are identified and discussed. Resulting perspectives on "women's community" in academe are also developed. Respondents maintained close, long-standing supportive ties with women colleagues within their academic disciplines, particularly when women colleagues were scarce in their local departments. Respondents' principal affiliations were rooted in their disciplines, highlighting the influence of discipline in matters related to professional identity as well as community.

This paper paints a portrait of successful leadership that was built through the directorship and ethic of caring of a female site administrator. The paper addresses the major question, "What major principles need to be incorporated into the daily life of those in leadership positions to assist in their success?"
