In her paper, "Monénembo's L'Aîné des orphelins and the Rwandan Genocide," Lisa McNee discusses Tierno Monénembo's L'Aîné des orphelins, a novel that offers a double discourse and a dual memory of the genocide that took place in Rwanda in 1994. McNee argues that L'Aîné des orphelins presents us with an extraordinary kind of fictional testimonial to genocide. Since the publication of Susan Faludi’s book in 1991, the terms “backlash” and “postfeminism” have come to be widely used in many feminist analyses to critique—and then usually dismiss—representations of both women and feminism throughout media and popular culture. This paper revisits both of these concepts, exploring some of the debates about the definition, meaning, and scope of feminism that both of these terms (often unwittingly) raise and then shut down. It argues that while seemingly useful ways to talk about popular representations, these concepts also replay many of the central (and often contentious) debates in feminist thinking, especially around …

This paper focuses on the intellectual and scholarly basis of the struggle for social integration of African-American women into American society. Feminism is viewed as the broad context within which this struggle must be conceived, understood, and sustained. Because the struggle is conceptualized as intellectually driven, the paper begins by critically examining feminist scholarship and the contention that feminist scholarship provides the basis for social integration of African-American women into male-dominated American society.

This study examined the institutional viability of three interdisciplinary women's studies programs in public universities to determine whether interdisciplinary programs are marginal or fragile. The research question has three related parts: (a) What factors influence assessments of institutional viability? (b) do assessments of institutional viability vary significantly according to differences in program structure? and (c) what strategies have emerged to maintain program viability over the next ten or 20 years?

In this article, we review one 'tailor-made play', one piece of organization theatre called Varnishing the Truth. We then reflect on the questions we asked of ourselves while watching this performance and reviewing the video of it: how does this activity relate to its claimed theoretical foundations (Boal's forum theatre)? Is forum theatre an appropriate model for organization theatre? Can 'things be made to move' by an activity such as the one to which we were an audience? In the wake of recent corporate accounting scandals, auditors are encouraged to improve their method of fraud detection. Although Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 99 does not change the responsibility of the auditor for detecting fraud, it does provide new procedural requirements for assessing fraud risk, such as brainstorming among key team members about the potential for fraud. Using audit interns and internal auditors, this study empirically examines two interventions hypothesized to improve the quality of ideas generated by audit interns and internal auditors. Total Evaporative Resistance Of Selected Clothing Ensembles, Victor Caravello

With regard to heat stress, the limiting factor inherent in clothing ensembles is the total evaporative resistance. Clothing with higher evaporative resistance impedes the ability to cool by sweat evaporation. Knowing the evaporative resistance provides a means to compare candidate ensembles. Further, a value for evaporative resistance means that a rational method can be used to assess the heat stress exposure. Evaporative resistance of five clothing ensembles (cotton work clothes, cotton coveralls, and three coveralls of particle barrier, liquid barrier and vapor barrier properties) was determined empirically from wear tests during two study phases. บทความนี้เป็นการพิจารณาปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างรัฐสมัยใหม่ ชุมชน-โจร-การจัดการทรัพยากรธรรมชาติว่ารัฐสมัยใหม่-ชุมชน-โจร การจัดการทรัพยากรธรรมชาติมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กันอย่างไร ข้อคิดสำคัญที่ได้จากการพิจารณาปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างทั้ง 4 ประเด็นคือ ในมุมมองของชุมชนท้องถิ่นอาจกล่าวได้ว่า รัฐสมัยใหม่ อาจเปรียบได้กับ "โจร" ที่ปล้นสิทธิอำนาจในการจัดการทรัพยากร ธรรม ชาติจากชุมชนท้องถิ่น เนื่องจากรัฐสมัยใหม่จัดการทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ โดยการรวมศูนย์อำนาจไว้ที่รัฐ และมีการเบียดขับไม่ให้ชุมชนท้อง ถิ่นและผู้คนที่รัฐนิยามว่าเป็นคนอื่น ไม่ใช่ไทย และ "คนจน" สามารถ เข้าถึงทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ ซึ่งต่างจากลักษณะการจัดการทรัพยากรธรรมชาติตามจารีตประเพณีของชุมชนท้องถิ่น รวมทั้งการ จัดการทรัพยากรธรรมชาติของรัฐสมัยใหม่ได้นำไปสู่การที่คนซึ่งถูก เบียดขับไม่ให้เข้าถึงทรัพยากรธรรมชาติกระทำการโจรกรรม หรือ อาชญากรรม เพื่อสิทธิอำนาจในการจัดการทรัพยากรธรรมชาติตาม จารีตประเพณีของชุมชนท้องถิ่น

การขยายตัวของเศรษฐกิจแบบส่งออกโดยมีข้าวเป็นสินค้าหลัก ทำให้เกิดโครงการพัฒนาที่ดินครั้งสำคัญในพื้นที่ราบลุ่มภาคกลาง สมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 คือการขุดคลองและบุกเบิกที่นาในโครงการรังสิต ซึ่ง ก่อให้เกิดการอพยพสู่พื้นที่นี้โดยผู้คนหลากหลายฐานะและชาติพันธุ์ ท่ามกลางการระดมทรัพยากรทางเศรษฐกิจในการผลิตข้าวทั้งในรูป เงินตราและแรงงาน ได้เพิ่มคดีและความรุนแรงของการปล้นสะดม โดยเฉพาะการปล้นและลักกระบือ ซึ่งกลายเป็นทรัพย์สินที่มูลค่าทางเศรษฐกิจสูง การพิจารณาถึงลักษณะคดีและการปล้นสะดมกระบือที่เกิด ขึ้นในพื้นที่แถบนี้ จะเห็นได้ถึงความเสื่อมคลายของความสัมพันธ์ ทางสังคมและระบบอุปถัมภ์ในยุคเศรษฐกิจแบบพอยังชีพ สู่สภาพ และระบบสังคมเฉพาะของพื้นที่บริเวณดังกล่าวนี้ ซึ่งได้เกิดระบบ อุปถัมภ์แบบใหม่ ทั้งที่เป็นลักษณะเฉพาะในแต่ละกลุ่มอพยพ ที่เกิด จากระบบเช่านา จากความคุ้มครองของบริษัทเจ้าของสัมปทาน รวมถึงการจัดการโดยระบบราชการและกฎหมาย ขณะที่บทบาทของนักเลง ที่มีความสำคัญสูงในระบบสังคมแบบเดิมเริ่มหมดพลัง และกลายเป็น ผู้สร้างความเดือดร้อนไปในที่สุด

ในบทความชิ้นนี้ ผู้เขียนมุ่งวิเคราะห์ตัวละครต่อหายซึ่งเป็น ตัวละครเอกตัวหนึ่งใน เรื่องของเกี่ยว ซึ่งเป็นวรรณกรรมชิ้นเอกของ เวียดนาม ประพันธ์ขึ้นโดยกวีเอกเหงียนซู ซึ่งลักษณะเด่นประการ หนึ่งของวรรณกรรมเรื่องนี้คือการที่ผู้เขียนยกย่องโจรต่อหายว่าเป็น วีรบุรุษ และในทางกลับกันขุนนางในเรื่องกลับมีลักษณะคล้ายโจร ดัง นั้น ตัวละครต่อหายของเหงียนซูจึงสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงวิกฤตศรัทธาของ ประชาชนต่อราชสำนักและความยุ่งเหยิงทางการเมืองของเวียดนาม ในช่วงต้นคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 19

บทความนี้ศึกษาวิเคราะห์เปรียบเทียบความเป็นโจรในวรรณคดีรวมนิทานพื้นบ้านสมัยเฮอัน Konjakumonogatarishuu ที่มีโจรเป็นอนุภาคสำคัญของเรื่อง 2 เรื่อง ได้แก่ เรื่องที่ 18 เรื่องของ โจรที่ขึ้นไปบนชั้นสองของประตูราโชมอนได้พบเห็นศพคนตาย และ เรื่องที่ 19 โจรฮะคะมะดะเระออกอุบายแกล้งทำเป็นตายแล้วฆ่าคนที่ ด่านเซะกิยะมะ ทั้งนี้ โจรในนิทานทั้งสองเรื่องต่างมีลักษณะร่วมที่เหมือนและในขณะเดียวกันก็แตกต่างกันอย่างเห็นได้ชัด "โจร" เป็น ตัวละครหนึ่งและอนุภาคสำคัญอนุภาคหนึ่งที่ช่วยสร้างสีสันให้แก่วรรณคดีประเภทนิทานพื้นบ้านในสมัยเฮอัน ให้ข้อคิดเกี่ยวกับมนุษย์และคติอันเป็นแนวทางในการดำรงชีวิตแก่ผู้คนในสังคม อีกทั้งสะท้อนภาพความเป็นอยู่ของชาวบ้านสามัญชนทั่วไปที่ต้องดิ้นรนเพื่อความอยู่รอดและความมั่นคงในชีวิต อันเป็นประเด็นสําคัญที่ทำให้วรรณคดีประเภทนิทานพื้นบ้านเล่มนี้แตกต่างไปจากวรรณคดีในยุคสมัยเฮอันตอนต้นที่ส่วนใหญ่มักให้ภาพลักษณ์ชีวิตในราชสำนักอันรุ่งโรจน์และเปี่ยมไปด้วยสุนทรียภาพของชนชั้นผู้ปกครอง

บทความเรื่องนี้มีจุดประสงค์ในการศึกษาภาพพฤติกรรม โจรและอันธพาลที่จิตรกรในรัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระนั่งเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวได้วาดไว้บนผนังโบสถ์วิหารของพระอารามหลวงแห่งสำคัญที่สร้างหรือปฏิสังขรณ์ขึ้นในรัชกาลนั้น โดยจะได้ศึกษาวิเคราะห์ถึง ความสำคัญของภาพโจรและอันธพาลที่จิตรกรวาดไว้ ในฐานะที่โจร และอันธพาลมีความสำคัญเป็นตัวดำเนินเรื่องในเรื่องราวทางพุทธศาสนาที่จิตรกรเลือกสรรมาวาด พร้อมกันนั้นยังศึกษาถึงรูปลักษณ์ ของโจรและอันธพาลที่ปรากฏในภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนัง โดยแสดงการวิเคราะห์ตัวอย่างภาพโจรและอันธพาลจำนวนหนึ่งที่วาดขึ้นในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 3 การศึกษาในขั้นตอนสุดท้ายของบทความนี้คือการศึกษา รูปลักษณ์ของโจรและอันธพาลที่ปรากฏในภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนัง โดยเทียบเคียงกับภาพลักษณ์ของโจรและอันธพาลที่ปรากฏในงาน วรรณกรรมร่วมสมัยที่แต่งขึ้นในช่วงรัชกาลที่ 2 และ 3 เพื่อหาข้อสรุปว่าความตั้งใจของจิตรกรที่ได้วาดภาพโจรและอันธพาลประเภทต่าง ๆ ขึ้นมานั้น เป็นความตั้งใจที่จะใช้ปลายพู่กันของตนนั้นสะท้อน ภาพของสังคมสยามในเวลานั้นให้ปรากฏเป็นหลักฐานกับคนรุ่นหลัง

ปาโบล เนรูดา กวีรางวัลโนเบลชาวชิลี ซึ่งโด่งดังจากกลอน รักวัยรุ่น ยี่สิบกลอนรักและหนึ่งเพลงแห่งความสิ้นหวัง (Veinte poemas de amor y una cancion desesperada) กวีนิพนธ์แนวเหนือจริง ที่พำนักบนแผ่นดิน (Residencia en la tierra) และมหากาพย์แห่ง ลาตินอเมริกา บทกวีแห่งทวีป (Canto general) ฉลองวันเกิดครบ รอบ 50 ปีให้แก่ตนเอง โดยการพิมพ์ โคลงสดุดีสามัญ (Odas elementales) ผลงานซึ่งนับเป็นจุดพลิกผันแนวการเขียนกวีนิพนธ์ ของเนรูดาอย่างสิ้นเชิง เนื่องจากกล่าวถึงสิ่งเรียบง่าย เช่น ผัก ผลไม้ และสิ่งต่าง ๆ รอบตัวด้วยระดับภาษาที่ผู้อ่านไม่ว่าชนชั้นใดสามารถ เข้าใจได้ แม้ โคลงสดุดีสามัญ จะเป็นที่รู้จักน้อยกว่างานยุคก่อน ของกวีและมีนักวิจารณ์จำนวนไม่น้อยมองว่าเป็นผลงานที่ด้อยคุณค่า ทางวรรณศิลป์ แต่ในความเป็นจริงแล้ว โคลงสดุดีสามัญ เป็นผล จากการวิวัฒนาการทางการประพันธ์สู่ความเรียบง่ายของเนรูดา โดย มีการประสานวรรณศิลป์ที่แตกต่างจากงานอื่น ๆ เข้ากับแนวความคิดทางการเมืองผ่านมุมมองของกวีผู้ซึ่งละทิ้งการสะท้อนเพียงความ รู้สึกนึกคิดของตนเองเพื่อบอกเล่าเรื่องราวความเป็นไปในสังคมของตน
