An Integral Perspective On Depression, Dinu S. Teodorescu

International Journal of Transpersonal Studies

The integral approach to therapy proposes to accommodate all the etiological factors of

unipolar depression in its theory, as well as to make use of all existing therapies, both pharmacological

and psychological, in the treatment of unipolar depression. Integral Therapy is

compared to cognitive therapy to find evidence for its superiority over the cognitive

approach. It appears that the cognitive therapy is more cost-effective than Integral Therapy

as an individual approach in the treatment of depression, but that the integral perspective

accounts better for etiological factors.

The disciplinary enterprises engaged in the study of consciousness now extend beyond their original paradigms providing additional knowledge toward an overall understanding of the fundamental meaning and scope of consciousness. A new transdisciplinary domain has resulted from the syncretism of several approaches bringing about a new paradigm. The background for this overarching enterprise draws from a variety of traditions. In this paper however elaboration is restricted to the quantum-mechanical account in David Bohm’s theoretical work in relation to his ideas about “active information”, “protointelligence”, and “non-locality”. The piece treats texts by Poe, cummings and Mallarmé as “musical fragments” — specifically, Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart serves, in a more modest setting, a similar function as that of Mahler in Berio’s Sinfonia: some sort of ongoing, complete background quotation of an entire work, onto which various other elements are grafted. (*) Clear quotations appear once more: Nono and Stockhausen being the most prominent, so to speak. The process for producing Pterodactyls (Nov. 2001) started one and a half years prior to an audience member even contemplating stepping into the Robinson Theatre to see a production of a play by the award-winning playwright Nicky Silver. I knew for a long time that I wanted to direct a play, but Pterodactyls was not always my choice. Initially, I had thought of doing Christopher Durang's, Beyond Therapy, but a simple reading of a monologue changed all that.

Contemporary band scholars believe that the American community band experienced a revival at the end of the twentieth century. Examining the community band’s unique history from its earliest forms during the Revolutionary period through the Golden Age of Bands identifies the traditions that supported this revival. The twentieth century, however, is ripe with developments largely independent from previous eras, including the vast expansion of the music education system in the United States and the education of amateur musicians, the Great Depression, and the gradual acceptance of the band as an artistic medium. Three years in the making, this project delves into the world of the Vietnamese in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It attempts to understand and interpret their complex society by using a combination of photography and writing. Mostly refugees, the three hundred or so Vietnamese share the burden of migrating to a new country with one another. They rely on each other. The community is what inspires them to succeed.

"Chinese Women Unbound" gives a brief historical background of the status of women in China and presents a well documented history of the evolutionary process of Chinese women's emancipation-from the first missionary school for girls in the 1840s, to the first females admitted to Beijing University in the late 1920s, the marriage law of 1950, and the divorce rate in the 1990s, among other events. The paper also discusses Chinese women's involvement in the 1911-1912 revolution, the Communist revolution, and the modernization of Chinese economy. In order to achieve some conformity, in certain instances the spelling of surnames is arbitrary, based on experience with what the names actually were or have become.
