It was a quick war and as wars go a relatively easy one for the victors. In an age of mass media, endless cable news coverage, and embedded reporters there was a kind of faux realism to it all. In fact the two favorite words in the reporting were "surreal" and "robust."

Mr. Tomlin recalls how his mother ran the farm after his father’s passing by using Italian and German POWs; in 1946, after finishing his tour of duty in the Army, he returned home and began attending New Mexico State University; the following year in 1947, he started running the farm on his own while he went to school; in 1948, he began hiring braceros; he used a crew of thirty men during the cotton harvest, which ran from mid September to the beginning of December; he had about six braceros who stayed on year-round driving tractors and irrigating; oftentimes, he …

The project that follows is my attempt to respond to two serious problems within the field of ethics. Firstly, I believe that too many ethical systems begin with an abstracted conception of how human beings should act in the world, only afterwards taking account of a conception of the way we are in the world, a conception that becomes deeply influenced and distorted by the ethical imperatives already formed. This type of ethical approach is characterized by unfounded metaphysical assumptions about a certain type of nature lurking below the surface of the world, marking out that which is good and …

Honors Projects

The purpose of this paper is to present different approaches to starting a theatre company in Chicago based on the experiences of two young companies, First Folio Shakespeare Festival and Rivendell Theatre Ensemble. This will also provide general knowledge for anyone who may consider starting a company and additional resources for that individual to use. Chicago was the optimal choice for this project as it is located near IIlinois Wesleyan University's campus, has an active and varied theatre industry, and is a place where alumni have started theatre companies.
