The Assessment Of The Reading Speed And Reading Ability Of Thai University Commerce And Accountancy Students Who Are Trained By Using A Computer Reading Program, Kulaporn Hiranburana, Prakaikaew Opanon-Amata

This research investigated the use of the computer in developing reading abilities, including speed reading and reading comprehension. In this study, 99 students from the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy were trained in speed reading using a computer program in English. The program contained activities aimed at increasing reading speed such as eye movement, timed reading and paced reading. The performance of these students in speed reading, comprehension and general English proficiency pretests and post-tests was compared with that of students who did not take part in the training. Although writing replies to complaints has been a part of our business writing course for long, I was rather disappointed to see students writing similar letters with inadequate structure and making the same mistakes every semester. In this paper I describe a small-scale investigation into the problems faced by students while writing reply letters.

"Humanism is a concept that was more realized than discovered during the Renaissance era (cultural awakening) in Europe during the fourteenth century. Since then, it has developed in the way we look at, not only the arts and architecture, but also the way we view religion. It helps incorporate ideas and ethics of human action to how we focus on the belief, values, and morals we derive from religion. A Sound Theology: The Vital Position Of Sound And Music To Hildegard Of Bingen's Theology And Public Identity, Geraldine E. Henderson

The twelfth-century nun Hildegard of Bingen heard God's voice as a child and developed a sensitivity to all sounds that led her to an increasing conviction of the power of sound. Later this sensitivity to sound issued in a body of religious writing about sound that this dissertation views as systematic, as an implicit "Theology of Sound" that can be legitimately extrapolated from the work. To trace how this theology emerged, Chapter One of this dissertation will give a brief biography and an overview of the chronology and context of Hildegard's work. This is an analysis of how fin-de-siècle Vienna and its mayor, Karl Lueger, influenced the development of Adolf Hitler’s worldview.
The works of many authors were consulted in conjunction with newspapers and memoirs of the period in order to gain a better understanding of what the environment of the Austrian capital was like in the fin-de-siècle period.
Several of Vienna’s political, social, and artistic facets are analyzed in an attempt to prove that the general atmosphere of the city influenced Adolf Hitler greatly during his formative years. It is concluded that while Adolf Hitler’s Weltanschauung did not completely crystallize until …

This paper examines some common measures of complexity, structure, and information, with an eye toward understanding the extent to which complexity or information‐content may be regarded as objective properties of individual objects. A form of contextual objectivity is proposed which renders the measures objective, and which largely resolves the puzzle of Maxwell's Demon.

19 | The Neolithic Site Of Abu Ghosh, Hamoudi Khalaily, Ofer Marder
IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority
Excavations at the Neolithic site of Abu Ghosh in the Jerusalem Hills uncovered two periods: the Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB) and the Pottery Neolithic (PN). This volume documents the results of the excavations of villages of these two consecutive periods, including architecture, lithics, groundstone, pottery, small finds and fauna. The PPNB village comprised domestic structures, courtyards, plaster floors and enclosing fences. Domestic activities took place in the courtyards. The PN village layout is less clear, as it was dug into the earlier remains. The faunal analysis reveals evidence of incipient domestication of wild goats in the PPNB assemblage, and by …
