In 1911 the Latter-day Saints in Great Britain found themselves, to an unprecedented degree, the focus of often intense public and official attention. Extravagant allegations were made against the Church and the missionaries in the national press, and questions were asked on the floor of the House of commons. Winston Churchill, the Home Secretary, conducted an official inquiry into the activities of the Church. Although he concluded that the accusations were of no substance and that no action by the government was required, the matter did not end there; the popular press continued to publish fanciful accounts of Mormon elders …

This collection consists of one scrapbook of clippings and photos and one folder of ephemera. The scrapbook includes extensive clippings and a limited number of photos of the 1937 flood in Huntington, West Virginia. Ephemera includes a copy of “The Belle of Barcelona: A Musical Comedy in Three Acts”, a 1929 program for said comedy at Huntington High School, and a ticket, pamphlet, clipping, and envelope about the 1976 American Freedom Train in Huntington.

Spanish officials in eastern Panama believed that Christianized Indians would serve as surrogates for Spanish settlers or troops, and their attempts to administer the region were grounded upon establishing alliances with selected Indian leaders. At the same time, pirates and other intruders also saw the need for alliances with Indian men in order for their endeavors to succeed. Through a process in which Europeans and Indians played an equal part, the early modern period saw the creation of several new indigenous leaders. The period between the First and Second World Wars was an unsettling time for women in Great Britain. After the First World War, the media, governmental acts, and everyday society urged women to return to the home. This was an especially difficult concept for women to accept after they had played a very public role during the war actively contributing to the war effort. The relationship between reading strategies that enhance essential learning in both · reading and history was studied. A U.S. History model has been developed to make connections between the teaching of history content and reading comprehension. Research has been obtained that indicates a direct correlation between student learning in a content area classroom and the integration ofreading strategies within daily lesson plans. Secondary teachers must be taught by teacher preparation programs and coached by administrators on how to develop lesson plans based on their students' need to use effective reading strategies. A handbook of activities for teaching music in an elementary first grade classroom was developed for use by first grade regular classroom teachers. A review of current educational research implicates music as being a valued discipline in early educational development of children. A number of public schools do not have a music specialist. If music education is to be part of the school's curriculum, it will have to be taught by the regular classroom teacher. This project surrounds the premiere of the most recent exhibition entitled Cleopatra Queen of Egypt from History to Myth which was celebrated in London’s British Museum under the direction of Susan Walker. Within months, it revealed across the Atlantic Ocean to the Field Museum in Chicago, its second and final location. This project focuses on considering the success for the show by a number of conditions while also highlighting Cleopatra’s biography.
