This paper focuses on the use of slogans within political rhetoric. The research focuses on the phrasing of the slogan, the connotation and association of the words used within them, and the motivational quality of slogans. Simply stated, this paper is a look into how and why political slogans are successful. The research is directed away from political slogans that are specifically created and used for campaign purposes and instead looks at the political slogans that are less vote-getting in orientation and have been used to shape public opinion or motivate a public action.

Being alone and surrounded by chaos would hardly encourage one to be calm and rational. Therefore, it is not difficult to appreciate M.H. Abram's definition of expressionism. He says expressionism is denoted by an author "expressing in [his] art [ ... ] violent extremes of emotion" while depicting an "individual standing alone and afraid in [ ... a] society which is disintegrating into chaos." These elements of expressionism reject realism in favor of expressing "a vision-of human life and human society." This story is about collaboration and its role in preparing graduate students in rhetoric and composition to be professionals. In-Between Science And Religion, Dominic Balestra

Research Resources

This paper traces the demise of the demarcation between science and non-science by falsifiability in early Popper through sophisticated revisions which results in transforming Popperian falsifiability into a historical situated criticizability, and one which retains a Duhemian requirement of subjectivity. This transformation opens a revised Popperian standpoint to the disciplinary rationality of theology, with important implications for reconsidering the relation between science and religion. It is then concluded that a significant, intellectual relationship of either dialogue or convergence between science and theology requires something like Patrick Heelan's hermeneutical philosophy of science for the standpoint in-between science and religion.

In the last 100 years Bulgarian history has endured many political changes, some of them very abrupt, which inevitably influenced the dominant ideological and methodological paradigms of Bulgarian historical writings. Being for five centuries (XVth - XIXth) under Ottoman rule, after the Berlin Congress (1878), the Bulgarian state was restored. Passing through the agitated period of the Balkan Wars (1912- 1913) and World War I, Bulgarian history of the interwar period continued to witness much political and social tension. World War II brought about another radical change, namely the establishment of a totalitarian political regime. After 45 years, in 1989, …

Emily Greene Balch was the second American woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize and worked throughout her lifetime to better the world for her fellow humans. As one who was shaped by the Progressive Movement in both character and action, she has nonetheless never received the historical spotlight given to other workers of her time such as Jane Addams. A survivor of protest against war, she has been virtually ignored despite her many activities and writings on behalf of peace, suffrage, and social reform. Even Mercedes M. Two basic types of dance are performed in this Iranian cultural sphere, and in the Middle East generally. The first is regional folk dancing, most often (but not exclusively) performed in groups. The second is solo improvised dance (sometimes referred to as majilesi 'social' or 'party'). This second form often evokes a strongly negative reaction, reflected, now as in the past, in attempts to ban public performances of solo improvised dance and to marginalize professional performers. The goal of the Bible was not to record history, and the text does not shy away from theological explanations for events. Given this problematic relationship between sacred interpretation and historical accuracy, historians welcomed the discovery of ancient Assyrian cuneiform documents that refer to people and places mentioned in the Bible. Discovered in the 19th century, these historical records are now being used by scholars to corroborate and augment the biblical text, especially the Bible’s “historical books” of Kings. The biblical exegesis of the seventeenth century has been criticized for (1) serving only to proof text dogmatic, polemic works; (2) reverting to the scholasticism of medieval times, ignoring the vitality of the Reformers' humanism; and (3) being academically inferior due to the neglect of scientific advances in biblical studies. John Owen's interpretation of the Epistle to the Hebrews is used to evaluate the legitimacy of this criticism. Seventeenth-century orthodox exegetical techniques reflect (1) precritical assumptions about Scripture (analogia fidei, analogia Scripturae, scope, contemporary application), (2) developments of Renaissance humanism (biblical and cognate languages; grammatical, linguistic, and lexical advances; text …
