The aim of this thesis is to highlight the significance of Christos Tsiolkas's first novel, Loaded (1995), as a Grunge text within the milieu of Australian literature. Grunge is a problematic genre in that it is difficult to define and is surrounded by major contradictions relating to its production and reception. Tsiolkas maintains that Grunge seeks to represent the contemporary local experience of living in Australia and the journey of Loaded's protagonist, Ari, reflects this by representing the nuances of contemporary Australian society on the margins. An analysis into the background of Tennessee Williams strongly suggests that the two one-act plays, This Property is Condemned and The Lady of Larkspur Lotion are autobiographical accounts, being that the characters arc based either on Williams himself family members or friends, and indeed, the plays arc representations of the era in wh1ch they were written. This honours project is divided into two parts. Part one is the written thesis. Part two is the photographic component. Part one discusses some of the practices and discourses associated with 'documentary' photography. Some documentary practices and discourses of the past can be seen to be culturally divisive. These practices and discourses were based on being, white, male and European. This ideology and its discursive modes are in conflict with contemporary photographic practices and the relevant social and cultural theories that define it. 古龍《陸小鳳傳奇》的理想型與變態型人物, Suk Tuen Cheung

《陸小鳳傳奇》轟動了文壇，令作者古龍名聲大斐。《陸小鳳傳奇》成功的原因是寫出諸多獨具個性的人物，不論主角配角亦同樣精彩。每個人物都是有血有肉，其行為也是可圈可點。而且這部推理武俠小說的情節懸疑迭起，令讀者如入迷障，引人入勝。再加上文字洗煉優美，當中妙語如珠，像散文詩亦如禪機，可謂精妙絕倫。

全文分作兩大部份，第一部份分析小說中的三個理想型人物，分別為陸小鳳、花滿樓和西門吹雪。本文會以李贄的〈童心說〉作基礎分析陸小鳳的性格，以中國傳統的仁愛道德觀去顯示出花滿樓的完美性格，及以「性痴」來分析西門吹雪這位劍神的內在情感。

第二部份是探索《陸小鳳傳奇》中的變態人物性格特徵，集中分析宮九和牛肉湯這對心理變態的兄妹。古龍善寫變態人物，此二人的變態心理異常矛盾複雜，宮九自卑又自戀，牛肉湯既自大又墮落，這部份會以西方心理學為基礎進行研究，主要用佛洛伊德的心理學理論如性異常和多重性格等，從當九和牛肉湯的行為分析二人形成變態心理的原因和找出他們行為的動機。

古龍正是透過這兩種截然不同的人物的強烈對比，令他們互相突出對方，使兩種人物在小說中性格也非常鮮明。他們的對立衍生出人物之間的愛恨，不但使故事高潮迭起，同時亦因此而深深吸引了讀者，令讀者與小說中的人物一起走進古龍的奇幻武俠世界。

This project looks at the changing environment in terms of the approach to the Visual Arts curriculum at Primary School level. It aims to provide an innovative solution to the art appreciation area, which is being given equal status with the art creation area, which traditionally has been the main focus of the curriculum.

Typographic Legibility For Retinitis Pigmentosa Readers, Carla Benedetti

Masters

Although numerous papers have been written on the subject of legibility, there appears to be a lack of research into the relationship between printed matter and visual impairment in this context. The research aim of this thesis is to conduct a comprehensive study on the reading performance of those suffering from a particular impairment, namely Retinitis Pigmentosa and to identify typographic considerations that would improve this performance. The work confirms the importance of specially designed material and the need for specific guidelines to ensure optimum legibility for particular eye deficiencies.

This dissertation examines the political, intellectual, and cultural significance of France's provincial newspaper press, called affiches, published between 1750-1789. Combining the histories of the press, provincial life, and the public sphere, this dissertation explores the ways in which the affiches became an indispensable part of local economic, cultural, and intellectual life while at the same time articulated a world view that was antithetical to the tenets of monarchical absolutism. The first part of the dissertation focuses on the origins, form and contents of the provincial press. This paper introduces readers to a new approach to dialectical logic: neutrosophy. Specifically it proposes a multi-valued logic in which the statement “both A and Non-A,” historically rejected as logically incoherent, is treated as meaningful. This unity of opposites constitutes both the objective world and the subjective world –a view with deep roots in Buddhism and Daoism, including the I-Ching. This leads in turn to the presentation of a framework for the development of a contradiction oriented learning philosophy inspired by the Later Trigrams of King Wen in the I-Ching. (First paragraph) At Old Dominion University, English majors must take one of the following courses-Postcolonial Literature, Literature by Minorities, African-American Literature, or Women Writers. In each course, our majors encounter new materials and perspectives. I teach Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse in Women Writers, a course in which students expect to explore feminist perspectives. Students range in age from nineteen lo sixty, but most are in their twenties or thirties. Tanker shipping today is one of the major branches of German inland navigation. Indeed, the transport of petroleum and its derivatives together comprise nearly twenty percent of total inland shipping; more than 42,000,000 tons of liquid petroleum products were shipped in 1996 by a fleet with a total cargo capacity of more than 500,000 tons.' The dictionary is based on the Ngaanyatjarra dialect of the Western Desert Language. It was designed originally to bridge the gap between my description of the grammar of the Western Desert Language (Oceanic Linguistic Monographs, No 4 Revised 1964) and the anticipated comprehensive dictionary which has been submitted by Misses A Glass and D Hackett for publication in Alice Springs this year. Some spelling alterations have been made in this edition to be consistent with those in the Glass and Hackett work.

Judith Dinham is a mid-career artist who combines an art practice with her position as Senior Lecturer in Visual Art Education at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia. Her art and research interest centres on conceptions of landscape. The desert from a feminine perspective and the role of travel are of particular interest. In the last forty years, many new solo and chamber pieces have been written for the trombone which involve elements of a theatrical nature, including lighting, make-up, costume, stage direction, dialogue/narration, sound effects, props, and audience interaction. It is difficult for a trombonist searching for music to discern a piece's theatrical nature by its listing in most catalogs. This document has attempted to solve that problem by gathering pieces that share these elements into an annotated collection. Since the 1750s American women have flocked to churches. Women have consistently been the majority in church populations. Religion was the central motivation of the female life experience. Likewise, women comprised a significant portion of the membership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in its first decade. There exists little historical analysis of the contribution and experience of these women as a whole. As a result of this lack of research some historians have made erroneous assumptions of patriarchal oppression and a lack of commitment on the part of early Mormon women. This thesis is a choreographic exploration that illuminates and defines moments in the lives of women who are mentioned in the Book of Mormon. These women are Sariah; the wife of King Lamoni and Abish, her servant; and the Ammonite mothers of Helaman's two thousand stripling warriors. It is through these stories that their faith was evident. By understanding the roles these women played in the history of the Book of Mormon, we can use their example to strengthen our own testimonies.

Since the advent of the Dead Sea Scrolls, four biblical textual scholars have emerged at the forefront of the dialogue concerning textual evolution. They are: Frank Moore Cross, Emanuel Tov, Shemaryahu Talmon and Eugene Ulrich. Though there is some overlap in their hypotheses, each scholar has put forth a framework of biblical textual development in light of these new discoveries.

If a new biblical text were discovered today, how would each scholar approach it? This thesis evaluates each scholars' views and concludes that Emanuel Tov's criteria for judging a newly discovered text is the most thorough and explanatory. Tov's views …

Segments is fictionalized memoir structured as eight short stories, or segments of the central character's life. These autobiographical incidents begin in Redding, California, in 1947, when the central character leaves the family farm on her first day of school only to return to face the loss of her innocence. I find it ironic that boys and girls sexually abused by a parent or other family member are not considered incest victims, but incest survivors. Even if one survives the effects of incest, all subsequent perspectives and decisions are colored by loss of trust.
