Code-Switching In The Hispanic Community Of Bloomington, Illinois: A Case Study, Rachel Dziallo

Honors Projects

This present case study of code-switching is a quasi-replication of Valdes' (1976) research on code-switching patterns, in which one individual is studied in various conversational situations. In the study carried out by Valdes, the focus was on the presence of code-switching patterns in different situations in order to determine the significance of one native speaker with various interlocutors. By realizing this study she concluded the following: (1) the use of code-switching by the principal infonnant does not suggest a lack of language skills; (2) bilingual speakers take full advantage of rhetorical devices to dramatize their speech; (3) regularity of patterned …

Unity Before Orthodoxy: An Investigation Into Second And Third Century Resurrection Theologies, Sharon L. Stowe '01

Honors Projects

This paper will explore three aspects of the previously named theologians (and Marcion, whose ideas are recorded only in others' texts): analogies the author uses to illustrate his resurrection ideas, opponents the text addresses, and as a result of these, the resurrection theology the author purports. Analogies will be studied for the purpose of later demonstrating the unity of those who supported the physical resurrection. The similarities in their language and analogies is in stark contrast to the lack of similarities in the analogies used by those who support a spiritual resurrection.

On April 26, 2001 David Marshak interviewed William Marshak, the interviewer’s father and Chief Scientist for SYTRONICS, for a class project dealing with oral histories and capturing the history of the Miami Valley. During the interview William discusses growing up in Chicago, working on a missile crew in the Air Force, teaching at the Air Force Academy, and more.

On Sport and Society

For the fan of professional sport it is a wonderful time of year with a cornucopia of marvelous events on the airwaves. The NHL playoffs are underway, the NBA playoffs are off and running, and the eternal hope of spring has been let loose with the opening month of baseball season. Even the Cubs are pennant contenders. It's all a reminder that for everything else blotting the landscape of sport, the game is still the thing.
