Muhlenberg County Heritage

“The Muhlenberg County [Kentucky] Heritage” was published four times a year by the Muhlenberg County Genealogical Society in Greenville, Kentucky, from 1978 to 2001. The cover title sometimes appears as “The Heritage.” The publication’s purpose was to support the society and to publish information about the genealogy, culture, and history of Muhlenberg County. A separate annual index was printed each year for volumes 1-14. Afterwards, each issue was indexed separately. Generally, the index is to surnames only.

This paper examines connections between theism and mathematical realism. Mathematical realism, which offers the best account of mathematics, strongly supports theism. Theism, in turn, supports mathematical realism. Theism readily explains the intricate relations between mathematics, matter, and mind. Justice requires that high consumption in affluent societies be slowed down for the sake of eradicating extreme poverty in the developing world and improving the condition of its very moderate consumers. High consumption places environmental and resource burdens and restrictions on the economic growth options of developing countries without bringing commensurate benefits. Moreover, high consumers enjoy products made in less developed countries by workers who have inadequate wages and often labor in unhealthy and unsafe conditions.

In this paper, we consider the expansive property (A homeomorphism, f, of a metric space, X, onto itself is called expansive if there is a positive number, ε, such that if x and y are distinct points of X, then there exists an integer, n = n(x,y), such that d(f n(x), f n(y)) > ε. In The Fifth Miracle Paul Davies suggests that any laws capable of explaining the origin of life must be radically different from scientific laws known to date? The problem, as he sees it, with currently known scientific laws, like the laws of chemistry and physics, is that they cannot explain the key feature of life that needs to be explained. That feature is specified complexity. Life is both complex and specified. The basic institution here is straightforward. In keeping with the mission of this organization to explore the relationship of faith to our discipline, I would like to take this opportunity to investigate the relationship, if any, between mathematics and worship. There have been throughout history, at least since Pythagoras, connections made between the mathematical and the theological. Many of these such efforts have followed the Pythagorean cult in deifying number, thus making mathematics the object of worship. Othes have effectively situated theology in subservience to mathematical reason. However, these are not the only alternatives.

This document describes the Theological Markup Language (ThML), an XML markup language for theological texts. ThML was developed for use in the Christian Classics Ethereal Library (CCEL), but it is hoped that the language will serve as a royalty-free format for theological texts in other applications. One of the great advantages of the web is that there's a bunch of free stuff-that's the truism, anyway. But free stuff comes from somewhere, and it is rarely, if ever, free to produce. I am interested in exploring some of the costs of digital work, using as an example The Walt Whitman Hypertext Archive, a project I co-direct with Ed Folsom Since 1995, many people, myself included, have described our site as free, yet a considerable amount of resources continue to go into its making. I want to explore that conundrum.

Documentary Editing: Journal of the Association for Documentary Editing (1979–2011)

The dilemma of studying the Tapestry is twofold. In traditional editions of the textile, the discursive limits of the printed page require either a sacrifice of narrative fluidity for detailed resolution, or the converse. Put another way, in a printed edition, "readers" of the Tapestry either are given the document in gloriously detailed, high-resolution plates that fragment the textile's continuity, or are faced with small-scale reproductions that capture large narrative blocks but lack any comprehensive magnified detail. Additionally, since its rediscovery in the 1720s and like any complex and canonical narrative expression, the Tapestry has generated hundreds of scholarly books …

During past centuries the moving due to marriage of Toggenburg and Werdenberg families within the region or across borders to neighboring countries can often be observed. Lichtensteig, Wil, and the town of St. Gallen were drawing points for commerce and business for the people of the Toggenburg, and moving across the Swiss border is documented already in the sixteenth century from and to W erdenberg and Appenzell, as shown by moves of families such as Alther, Gantenbein, Giezendanner, and Steiner.
