We were all younger then, and at thirty I guess I was younger and I certainly had done far less than most of the people gathered in a hotel room in St. Louis to establish the Association for Documentary Editing. I'm quite certain that I didn't say anything- for although I was strongly committed to documentary editing, the Southern Historical Association was meeting at the now-demolished hotel near Forest Park, and on the previous afternoon I had presented my first paper to a professional historical meeting. 1999 Ade Conference

Documentary Editing: Journal of the Association for Documentary Editing (1979–2011)

Charlottesville, Virginia, will play host to the 22nd annual meeting of the ADE, October 7-9, 1999. Charlottesville is situated in the rolling countryside of the Virginia Piedmont, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Conference attendees will stay at the Omni Hotel, located on the city's historic downtown pedestrian mall, where they will find an eclectic mix of shops, coffeehouses, used bookstores, small art galleries, and fine restaurants. Conference sessions will be held at the hotel.

Documentary Editing: Journal of the Association for Documentary Editing (1979–2011)

This quarterly feature provides an annotated bibliography of current documentary editions on subjects in the fields of American and English history, literature, and culture. It is generally restricted to first editions of works edited from manuscript and published in English, but significant exceptions may occasionally be made. A separate annual list of other scholarship and literature published by members of the Association will also be compiled if interest warrants it.

This report presents the results of archaeological research conducted by the Center for Archaeological Studies at the University of South Alabama for the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) as part of a project to widen Alabama Highway 177, from its origin at US Highway 43 to Boise Cascade Road, in Clarke County near the City of Jackson. Archaeological field work began in 1996 with a Phase I cultural resources survey involving shovel tests placed along both sides of the highway (Shorter and Lawrence 1996). Hagiography is not an extinct genre in Russian literature, even though many believe that it was important in the history of early Russian literature but became irrelevant as Russian literature entered its modem period. The autobiography of priest A vvakum, written in the second half of the seventeenth century, is often considered to be the final work in the development of Russian hagiography. Russian spirituality has not died out, however, and holy men and women continue to display the same devotion to Christ that was admired in medieval saints. Historical revision is a valid practice whereby historians reinterpret the past from different viewpoints and in the light of new documents or research. Those who deny the Holocaust, however, call themselves "revisionists" in an attempt to gain scholarly legitimacy, trying to align themselves with the' historians of the 1920s and 1930s who reinterpreted the causes of the first World War. Should libraries acquire materials that deny the Holocaust, whether through purchase or donation?

Differences in interpretation between the United States and Great Britain over the Oregon Treaty and ownership of the San Juan Islands nearly erupted into open hostilities when an American settler, Lyman Cutler, shot and killed a pig that was owned by Charles Griffin, the Hudson's Bay Company agent on San Juan. Both countries sent troops to the islands, but cooler heads eventually prevailed. Although the "Pig War" lasted for a decade, the only casualty was the aforementioned pig. The market transition in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union brings us back to essential issues that Marx and Weber addressed: the genesis of capitalism and the process of economic change. What is the transition and what does it involve - restructuring incentives, creating new laws, learning new culture, or creating new power structures? The answer partially depends on the particular transition (initial conditions, targets, actors' perceptions); but necessary general frameworks remain elusive, and current economic policies and analyses reveal that we understand little more about economic change than a century ago. Four Variations On A Theme Of Nine, Nathan R. Barber

This composition represents four variations of a projected total of nine. The variations are based on the number nine having a nine-note theme that utilizes a nine-note scale. Nine is also prominently featured in the meters, rhythms, and harmonic construction. The main harmonic consideration is pandiatonicism using the nine-note scale, although bitonal chords, positioned a ninth apart, are used quite prominently also.

The work is for full orchestra, augmented with saxophone, harp, piano, and four percussionists.

A Comparison Of Rhythmical Abilities And Behaviors Between Typical Children And Children With Williams Syndrome, Laura Grafton Pawuk

Masters Theses

The purpose of this study was to compare the rhythmical abilities and testing behaviors of children with Williams syndrome (Ws) to typical children. Forty-three children took part in the study, including 9 children with W s and 34 children of the typical population.

The MRL Test of Kinesthetic Response to Music and a Behavioral Checklist identified rhythmical ability and testing behaviors respectively. The former indicated that typical children scored significantly better than Ws children in 9 of 11 exercises at the .05 alpha level. Two Ws children were tested in optimum environments. Ethnic Intercession: Leadership At Kalaupapa Leprosy Colony, 1871–1887, Pennie Moblo

Pacific Studies

Western notions of leadership can obscure the complexity of colonial history. This article examines ethnic relations in Hawai‘i via its Hansen’s disease colony during the years immediately preceding the overthrow of the monarchy. Popular accounts of Kalaupapa portray a nineteenth-century prison of iniquity where native Hawaiians, sequestered from the controls of civilization, degenerated to a state of “savagery” until a European priest saved them. This image is challenged by letters and reports to the Board of Health, which invoke an alternative history focused on the dialogue between native patients and foreign advisors in government.
