The valuation of tangible personal property donated to reduce federal tax liability is an example of one function of the professional appraiser. An equally important task related to charitable contributions involves the appraisal of donated property after it becomes surplus to the needs of the recipient institution.

This study examines controversial exchanges from the Colt Museum Collection at the Connecticut State Library in Hartford between 1977 and 1984, placing them within a broader context to trace the evolution of uniform standards in the museum profession. The central idea recognizes the need for procedural safeguards to guide deaccessioning decisions.

Feminist researchers investigate women’s lives. This project is looking at a tiny thread embedded in a small section in the huge fabric of women's lives. The section is women’s capacity for violence, and the thread within it is women’s rage. This is a qualitative study of contemporary women experiencing and expressing their anger and rage. Discussions of violence within feminist literature have been largely restricted to accounts of male violence against women and children, and may have inadvertently endorsed the mainstream construction of femininity, which perceives rage in women to be an inappropriate emotion. "Voices from a Reliquary" is a series of six short stories drawn from genealogical research. The stories explore historical events and issues which affected the family. Two main thematical bases of the stories are the power of the historical relic and the life transforming effect of journeys. Major theoretical issues considered within the work are the relationship between historical-biographical narrative and the cognitive processes of memory. My narrative style seeks to imitate these cognitive processes, mainly through the use of what Bakhtin termed “polyphonic" narrative. Although the matter of adaptation is a delicate one, a majority of Shaw's original work is retained in My Fair Lady--over half of the show is the original Pygmalion script (Lerner Street 23). With the exception of the altered ending, almost all of Shaw's poke at English society is intact. But in this case, the songs of the musical serve an even greater function than just relaying what is on the characters' minds when the orchestra starts to play. Biographers have written numerous accounts of the events of Charles Dickens's life, and critics have made some interesting observations about Dickens's novels and the characters he depicts in those novels. For example, these critics discuss characters who represent different people Dickens encountered in his life, familial relationships as presented in the novels, and Dickens's attack on various institutions and ideas, such as the Poor Laws, the legal system, and the industrial revolution. There are few references, however, to the influence on his writing of two major experiences in Dickens's childhood, neglect and abandonment by his family, and poverty. I have …

The advancement in technology, the information super highway and the internet have threatened the intellectual property of copyright owners. There is now, a relative ease in the copying, reproduction and transmission of copyrighted work through digitization. This thesis explores the legal systems of the United States, and the European Community, and their proposals towards adequate protection of works from copyright infringement. The thesis examines the competing interests of the copyright owner, the rights of users of the internet, and the role of the legislators in the United States and the European Community in balancing and protecting these interests.
