Rhetorical Knowledge in Legal Practice and Critical Legal Theory has just been published by the University of Alabama Press as part of its series, Rhetoric, Culture and Social Critique. My central themes are that rhetorical knowledge - however imperfectly pursued and attained - is a feature of social life; that rhetorical knowledge plays an important role in legal practice; and that legal critique is appropriately grounded by the normative injunction to maximize the generation of and reliance on rhetorical knowledge in the administration of justice by legal actors. บทความชิ้นนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ที่จะสืบประวัติการบัญญัติศัพท์คำว่า phoneme, allophone, morpheme, allomorph, lexeme, word-form ในภาษาอังกฤษ และคำว่า "หน่วยเสียง" "หน่วยเสียงย่อย" "หน่วยคำ" "หน่วยคำย่อย" "หน่วยศัพท์" "รูปคำ" ในภาษาไทย และอภิปราย นิยามของคำเหล่านี้ บทความชิ้นนี้ยังชี้ให้เห็นปัญหาที่เกิดจากศัพท์บัญญัติ 2 คำ ได้แก่ "หน่วยคำ และ "หน่วยคำย่อย" คำศัพท์บัญญัติทั้งสองคำนี้ก่อให้เกิดความสับสนในการอธิบายมโนทัศน์เรื่อง morpheme และ lexeme แก่นักเรียนชาวไทย ผู้เขียนจึงได้เสนอคำศัพท์ชุดใหม่ในบทความชิ้นนี้ ได้แก่ "หน่วยสัทอรรถ" สําหรับคําว่า morpheme "สัทอรรถ" สำหรับคำว่า morph "สักอรรถ ย่อย" สำหรับคำว่า allomorph และ "สัทอรรถวิทยา" สำหรับคำว่า morphology คำศัพท์ บัญญัติชุดใหม่ช่วยขจัดความสับสนระหว่างหน่วยพื้นฐานในระดับต่าง ๆ ในภาษาและสะท้อน ข้อเท็จจริงทางวิชาการว่าวิชา morphology เป็นวิชาที่มุ่งหาหน่วยภาษาที่เล็กที่สุดที่ประกอบด้วย องค์ประกอบ 2 ส่วนคือ เสียงและความหมาย

Images Of Mary: Effects Of Style And Content On Reactions To Marian Art, Donald J. Polzella, Johann G. Roten S.M., Christopher W. Parker

Psychology Faculty Publications

105 college students rated digitized facsimiles of works of art depicting the Virgin Mary, which varied in style (Pre-Renaissance versus Renaissance and Post-Renaissance) and content (depictions of events versus devotional images). Viewer reactions were affected strongly by style, content, and their interaction. For example, the newer style was perceived to have greater power and clarity than the older style, and this effect was greater for event depictions than for devotional images. Other findings included differences in reactions between men and women.

Throughout his later philosophy, Wittgenstein repeatedly asks the following: ”What makes my image of him into an image of him?” (LW1 308).’ “What makes this picture his picture?” (LW1 309). He takes this same question to apply to linguistic utterances: “Isn’t my question like this: ‘What makes this sentence a sentence that has to do with him?’” (LW1 308). This is by no means a peripheral concern of Wittgenstein’s, and in Philosophical Grammar (62), where he first phrases this question, he pronounces: “That’s him (this picture represents him --that contains the whole problem of representation.”
