William Taylor : Organizer And Statesman, Thomas Mee

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

To the average layman of the present day, as well as the majority of the new generation of ministers, the name of William Taylor rarely carries the deep impression that his labors justify. From the standpoint of the American Continents, this observation may have more in fact than in other parts of the world where his labors were more abundant in term of years devoted to the building of a more worthy civilization.

With a view to making more accessible the thrilling account of this truly noble Christian Statesman, much research has been made. In doing so, it is hoped …

The Miles-Crook Controversy, Katherine Shepard Jan 1936

The Miles-Crook Controversy, Katherine Shepard

History ETDs

The accusations and resulting explanations in the Miles-Crook newspaper encounters revolved around four questions. First, had Miles disobeyed his orders in accepting a conditional surrender. The chief difficulty here was that no one seemed able to discover just what terms or promises Miles had made to Geronimo. Second, had not General Miles and Captain Lawton received the credit for the surrender which should have been bestowed upon Lieutenant Gatewood, who with two Chiricahua scouts, sought out the hostile camp and arranged that the Indians should go to the border and give themselves up to Miles. Third, had not Miles, after …

English Homilies And English Miracle Plays, Anthony J. Achee

English Language and Literature ETDs

A priest who is also a student of English literature is naturally interested in the manifestations of the religious spirit as it has appeared in our literature. Acquaintance with a few finely poetic passages in the homilies of Aelfric led me to suspect that perhaps our ancient homiletic literature was worthy of more attention than it seemed to have received at the hands of scholars. Consequently, when the opportunity for producing an original study presented itself, the field was waiting for me; that of the early English homilies.

Hablo en estas páginas mías de oasi todos los tipos que satiriza Quevedo, pero ni incluyó a los herejes; y esto por varias razones. Primero, no son ellos tipos que podemos apreciar hoy, ni son …
