The Treatment Of Sir Gawain In English Literature From Geoffrey Of Monmouth To The Twentieth Century, Bertha C. Cook
The Treatment Of Sir Gawain In English Literature From Geoffrey Of Monmouth To The Twentieth Century, Bertha C. Cook
Graduate Thesis Collection
One of the greatest sources for literary productions during the Middle Ages was the material which dealt with King Arthur and his followers. These heroes were very popular, and the fame of their exploits was wide spread. As early as the eleventh century, the Arthurian stories were current in Italy, and some of the episodes were carved in a cathedral in Modena in the early twelfth century. Many romances filled with the adventures of the knights were written in France, and some of the heroes were popular in Germany.

The Influence Of Cyrano De Bergerac's "Voyages To The Sun And The Moon" On Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels", Nancy Crampton
Graduate Thesis Collection
It has been claimed by the French that Cyrano de Bergerac was the source for Jonathan Swift's GULLIVER'S TRAVELS. In the following paper an effort will be made to show the Englishman's indebtedness to the French writer, but in so doing it will be necessary to give some of the more indirect influences upon de Bergerac as well as upon Swift.

An Investigation Of The Triliteral Root [Baal] In The Massoretic Text, Herbert C. Albrecht
Graduate Thesis Collection
If certain important words used in the Massoretic Text were studied individually, the several instances of their occurrence compared with each other and each form interpreted in the light of its own setting, and in the light of other similar instances of its usage, there can be little doubt that many useful suggestions would result.

Unionism is a sign of the times. Alliances of nations, mergers of corporations, unions of laborers, of employers, of capitalists, consolidation of resources, collective bargaining, - these are expressions familiar to every one. In union there is strength. Union eliminates much waste, senseless competition, makes for greater economy, efficiency, service, better times. Union, cooperation, is hailed by many as the cure-all for the manifold troubles of the present day, as the best possible solution of the vexing twentieth-century problems.

The treatment of this subject is occasioned by the jubilee of Luther as translator. It was the example of Luther that spurred others to action in giving the Holy Scriptures to the people in their own vernacular. In the era of the Reformation the Bible was translated into practically all the leading languages of Europe. Luther's work was the pattern for all of them. Luther finished the New Testament in 1522; Tyndale followed with his English translation of the New Testament in 1525. It was done partly in Hamburg and partly in Wittenberg, Cologne, and Worms.
