William of Saint-Thierry was one of several mystical theologians who lived about the time of St. Bernard. He was born at Liege, France, about the year 1090 of noble parentage. Little is known of his childhood, but it seems that after the manner of those days, he had gone forth in the company of another youth, known to us only as Simon, a close friend of William, to seek education under a certain Anselm of Laon, who, as Andre Adam says, had attracted many students to his side.

We choose Italy for our study, because she is the mother of this phenomenon -- Fascism having originated in Italy -- and because Fascism received its name by and from that country. Wherever necessary, we will, for the purpose of elucidation, make allusions to and draw comparisons with the forms of Fascism existing in other countries. The purpose of this paper, then, is to make a searching inquiry into the institutions of the Italy of today as compared with the pre-Fascist Italy, so that we will be enabled to determine the true nature of Fascism.

Claude Augustus Swanson was born at Swansonville, Pittsylvania County, Virginia on March 31, 1862. He is the son of John Muse Swanson and Catherine Pritchett. His father who was a merchant and tobacco manufacturer lost all his property in the panic of 1876. This caused Claude to have to stop his education at the age of fourteen and go to work on the farm.
