The Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America during the past thirty-odd years has gained an extraordinarily large influence in the affairs of the American Protestant church, and American life and government It has been thought well, because of the extensive power of the Federal Council, to investigate the Council, with reference to its background, religion and work, with special treatment of those factors which make control by the Federal Council in religious, civil and political life intolerable. It is to a study of' such features that this paper is dedicated.

I am attempting in this paper to describe the colonial ideas and institutions, which must have influenced George Mason in the writing of his Declaration of Rights for the Virginia Convention of 1776. First, I will show the effect of European thought and customs in the colonies. The English liberal tradition, which culminated in the seventeenth century struggle for civil liberties and a constitutional monarchy, is quite important. Even though honey is one of the oldest known sweets, there is a general lack of knowledge concerning its chemical and physical properties. This is particularly true of those honeys produced in the intermountain region. Beekeepers of this region have long felt that their product was sweeter than those honeys produced in other sections of the country. This, of course, implies that honey produced in the intermountain area is higher in sugar concentration and lower in percent moisture. The present study was made in order to supply some data concerning honeys of this area.

In the thirteen Epistles written by the Apostle St. Paul we find no comprehensive treatment of prayer. He has not, for example, dealt with prayer as he has with the doctrines of justification, sanctification, or the Church. Yet his Epistles contain many references to prayer and are steeped in its practice. Prayers in connection with the teachings which he sets forth are interspersed through his writings. To attempt to understand St. Paul involves more than a study of his Epistles and the Book of Acts. His letters and the Acts of the Apostles reveal little of his “pre-Christian” biographical background. We must reconstruct his entire background from several cryptic passages, viz.,"Of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee.” Also: “Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city.”

According to A.L. Kroeber, Cushing's residence at Zuni from 1879 to 1894, laid the foundation for the study of ethnology in the Southwest. This beginning of work in the study of the life, manners, and customs of the living Indians in the Southwest, came at a time when the modern study of ethnology was itself very new, dating its beginning back but twenty years before Cushing went to Zuni. When I acquired it I was of the opijnion that it was in Jefferson's own hand-writing. However, upon investigation I have discovered that although the body of the letter greatly resembles Jefferson's hand, th esignature is not his. Therefore, the most plausible explanation is that this is a contemporary copy of a letter which Jefferson wrote.
