A Study Of Faith And Reason As Found In The Writings Of Karl Barth, Emil Brunner, And E.J. Carnell, Bernard Edward Mott Jr. Apr 1953

A Study Of Faith And Reason As Found In The Writings Of Karl Barth, Emil Brunner, And E.J. Carnell, Bernard Edward Mott Jr.

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The question which forms the core of this paper is the relationship of faith and reason. Is faith reasonable? Does every aspect of that in which man believes need to fit the requirement of reason? Does reason support faith or faith reason? Is reason possible without faith?

To establish this relationship also means the establishment of the limitation of each. What is the area of faith? How is knowledge obtained? Why is faith necessary at all? Or why is reason necessary? To answer these questions one must also ascertain the correct view of the world, of man, of God, of …

Tennessee Williams And The Tragic Tradition, Edgar E. Macdonald Apr 1953

Tennessee Williams And The Tragic Tradition, Edgar E. Macdonald

Master's Theses

This thesis is an attempt to ascertain to what extent Tennessee Williams has accepted or rejected traditional precepts, concepts, and symbolism in the theatre.

Inasmuch as his dramas reanimate certain older forms with newer freedom, it is thought by many that he is changing the direction of the modem theatre. Just as Ibsen at one time rebelled against the conventions of romanticism, thereby founding a new school of thought in drama, today Tennessee Williams is leading a revolt against tho restrictions of realism. It is hoped that an analysis of his work at this time will help to determine the …

Christian Evangelism And The Preschool Child, Ralph W. Wilde Mar 1953

Christian Evangelism And The Preschool Child, Ralph W. Wilde

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Preschool children are admittedly immature. They have a lot to learn concerning the world in which they live. They are necessarily very busy becoming acquainted with themselves and with the environment in which they have been placed . They express themselves very crudely and have little experience upon which to base their judgments. Many adults have regarded them as beings to be seen and not heard. The Church itself has seldom given much attention to their spiritual problems. That attention which the Church has given has pertained more to their readiness for death than to their readiness for life. In …

The Metaphorical Image In The Poetic Tragedy Of Federico García Lorca, Jack Edward Tomlins Mar 1953

The Metaphorical Image In The Poetic Tragedy Of Federico García Lorca, Jack Edward Tomlins

Spanish and Portuguese ETDs

Admittedly, to present another study on Lorca appears at first to be a futile task. Critics in Spain, Latin America, England, and the United States have in no way allowed the poet to fall into oblivion; quite the contrary, in numberless articles and critical analyses, Lorca has been praised, applauded, and very nearly deified--often by those who obviously were striving to make political capital of his untimely death. This voluminous output of Lorquian criticism--which is many times composed on an elegiac note and based on high-sounding generalities--prompts the present investigation. This study will explore the reputation which Lorca has earned …

A Study Of The Partition Of Palestine, Nicola Youssef Sharaiha Jan 1953

A Study Of The Partition Of Palestine, Nicola Youssef Sharaiha

CGU Theses & Dissertations

The United Nations Special Committee on Palestine is now a past history, along with the seventeen previous Committees and commissions which had reported on the Palestine problem.

But this Committee had several unusual features. It was a United Nations Committee and the Big Powers had no part in it. It was instructed to complete its work in one hundred and twenty days. The Committee visited four continents, heard many advocates and collected nearly two hundred pounds of typed or printed evidence. Lastly it was the first international Committee to study the problem of Jewry inside and outside Palestine.

I was …

The Prophetic Concept Of [Tsedaqah], Loren E. Arnett Jan 1953

The Prophetic Concept Of [Tsedaqah], Loren E. Arnett

Graduate Thesis Collection

The concept of [hebrew characters] (tsedeqah) is a cardinal feature of the prophetic teaching. A study of the prophetic literature in the Old Testament reveals that the Hebrew word [hebrew characters- tsedeqah] and cognates appear about one hundred and sixty times. This frequent usage emphasizes the significant place the concept of [hebrew characters- tsedeqah] had in the thinking and preaching of the prophets. The impact of the prophets delcarations is greatly dimished for many readers, however, by the wide range of diversity in the Greek and English translations of [hebrew characters- tsedeqah] and its cognate words.

The Voodoo Gospel And The Christian Gospel, William Dewitt Burton

Honors Papers

When on September 4, 1950 I went to the Republic of Haiti as a missionary for the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention, U.S.A., I found Voodoo to be far more prevalent there than I had been led to believe, and I was very ill-prepared to cope with it in the rural area where I was assigned to work. I knew also that after two years I was to go to Liberia, ' West Africa, where I would find a similar situation. I then set about to learn all that I could about Voodoo.

Two main reasons, then, led me …
