Guadiana: An Initital Reconnaisance Of The Service-Area Community Of A Mexican Ejido, Robert Curry Barnard Jun 1953

Guadiana: An Initital Reconnaisance Of The Service-Area Community Of A Mexican Ejido, Robert Curry Barnard

Latin American Studies ETDs

Space is a basic conditioner of man’s every global activity. In space—and in time—exist bis cultural systems. The prime concern here will be with certain spatial or territorial aspects of human organization related to an agricultural village—Ejido Guadiana—-in the Mexican north-central state of San Luis Potosi. Man has been always, and is still, inherently earth-bound. The locus of all his social groupings—from family through village, city and the national state—is territory or area. The identification and description of the locale of man’s associative life has uppermost the fact of territoriality. That identification and description seems to be an indispensable preliminary …

For a more detailed picture of those activities, the reader would do well to consult the B.D. thesis mentioned above.

The New Testament Attitude Toward Government, David Koenig Jun 1953

The New Testament Attitude Toward Government, David Koenig

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

One such form of life in the secular world is that of government. Practically every Christian, like other individuals, is a citizen--or at least an inhabitant--of some particular nation. And every nation has some form of government by which the inhabitants are controlled. These forms may vary widely, from a total dictatorship or monarchy to a thorough-going democracy; from a highly-organized state which concerns itself with even the minute matters of individual life to a loose organization whose only concern is the preservation of outward order. No matter what the form, some relationship must be assumed by individual Christians toward …

An Evalutation Of The Theological Content Of This Is The Life, Victor Constein Jun 1953

An Evalutation Of The Theological Content Of This Is The Life, Victor Constein

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

Therefore this present evaluation limits itself to the study of a single area. This is the question: What is the theological content of the individual episodes of THIS IS THE LIFE? To do this, each episode is treated as a single total experience. Involved are the members of the Fischer family, their relatives and acquaintances. Each experience is treated as a unit, consisting of three interrelated elements.. These are: 1) An identifiable situation. 2) An identifiable response. 3) The psychological process which unites the situation and the response.

Henry Brooke: A Study Of His Ideas And Of His Position In The Pre-Romantic Movement, Richard H. Darbee May 1953

Henry Brooke: A Study Of His Ideas And Of His Position In The Pre-Romantic Movement, Richard H. Darbee

English Language and Literature ETDs

This study originated in the belief that the poems, plays, and novels of Henry Brooke furnish a good cross-section of the thought of eighteenth-century England. Deism, Newtonianism, mysticism, methodism, Rousseauism-- all find expression in Brooke's writing. Since on the surface it would appear that many of the ideas are contradictory and incompatible, I was interested to learn whether, chameleon like, he changed his ideas to fit each passing interest, abandoning one set of beliefs to embrace another, or whether, by means of some subtle alchemy, he was able to fuse and synthesize the apparently divergent ideas which his writings reflect. …

The Writings Of Rabindranath Tagore As A Bridge Between East And West, Marie Somerville May 1953

The Writings Of Rabindranath Tagore As A Bridge Between East And West, Marie Somerville

English Language and Literature ETDs

Tagore, the interpreter of the East to the West, was impelled by the urge of his strong desire for world understanding to shape his thought in many media. He presents his message clothed in the garb of nature and her influence on men; he expresses his rejection of the material in favor of the spiritual and the simple in beautiful melody; he champions the poor and the oppressed in arresting song, and with impassioned ardor compels sincerity and abandonment of all sham and orthodoxy that cripple the spirit.

Arnulfo Árias: A Study In Nationalism, Charles A. Moya May 1953

Arnulfo Árias: A Study In Nationalism, Charles A. Moya

Latin American Studies ETDs

This paper is an endeavor to present a just and impartial narration of the events as well as the interpretation of the facts that in some way conditioned the colorful political career of one of the most controversial and dynamic nationalists of contemporary Latin America.

Arnulfo Árias is a relatively young man, and while presently barred from holding public office, his many followers are confident that his exoneration and political rehabilitation are only a matter of time. If and when his civil rights are restored, it is quite possible that his political tactics will have shown some basic modifications. The …

The Poetic Technique Of Gil Vicente, Peter John Lunardini May 1953

The Poetic Technique Of Gil Vicente, Peter John Lunardini

Spanish and Portuguese ETDs

The important problem at present, however, is the critical analysis of the lyrics found in Vicentine drama. This analysis is two-fold: that of the strophe patterns employed by the poet as well as that of the lyric content of the poems themselves. An analysis of the structure of the songs is of utmost importance since reiteration and rhythm are essential features of popular songs.

Ricardo Flores Magón And The Mexican Liberal Party, Myra Ellen Jenkins May 1953

Ricardo Flores Magón And The Mexican Liberal Party, Myra Ellen Jenkins

History ETDs

The following study will attempt to show the influence of the Mexican Liberal party from the period of the Díaz dictatorship to the administration of Álvaro Obregón. Most of the democratic economic and political principles which it advocated in the Manifesto of July 1, 1906 were later incorporated into the Constitution of 1917. Although this group failed to bring Anarcho-Communism to Mexico by force of arms during and after the Madero revolution, the agitation which it conducted influenced the agrarian movement led by Zapata, and the left-wing labor movement which finally resulted in the organization of the Confederación General de …

The Poetry Of Dylan Thomas, Myron Ochshorn May 1953

The Poetry Of Dylan Thomas, Myron Ochshorn

English Language and Literature ETDs

There are many reasons for calling Thomas a romantic, and in the course of this study an attempt will be made to make these reasons apparent. But if Thomas is a romantic, he is one who has absorbed into his poetry all of the niceties and intricacies of the seventeenth-century metaphysical poets. His poetry, like theirs, abounds in conceits, allusions, and puns—qualities which we do not usually associate with romantic poetry.

The Indispensability Of The Holy Scriptures, Clarence E. Knoepfle

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Man has always and everywhere sough to know about God. Though his mind has been corrupted and blurred by sin, he has, nevertheless, recognized that his eternal destiny is in the hands of his Creator. This recognition has at the same time brought with it a heart-craving for some assurance that God is pleased with his life and is determined to provide for his eternal wellbeing. Evangelical Christendom has always maintained that such an assurance may be realized by a prayerful study of the Bible. Furthermore, Protestantism has traditionally claimed the Bible as the unique depository of Revealed Truth concerning …

An Inductive Study Of The Principles Of Stewardship Of Material Goods As Taught In The Four Gospels, Alfred D. Enns

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

A study of the Scriptures, as well as observing the economic structure of society, reveals that money, or its equivalent in the for.m of material goods, is vital to the life of every individual. The problem of wealth is, and has always been, one of the most important ethical problems of the world. Neither religion nor civilization can evade that problem and live.

Money, the most common of temporal things, can be used for good or for evil, depending upon the desire and wish of the individual who has possession of it. For this reason it involves uncommon and eternal …

A New Testament Study Of The Problem Of Sin After Sanctification, Norval Hadley May 1953

A New Testament Study Of The Problem Of Sin After Sanctification, Norval Hadley

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Very much has been written on the subject of sanctification, but many of these writings were found to contain comparatively little clear teaching on the subject of sin after sanctification. Furthermore, there has existed in the minds of many with whom the writer has been personally acquainted some questions on this subject, -indicating a need for more sound instruction in this field. This study has sought to answer some of these questions. The problem here presented was: Can a fully sanctified person sin? If so , how Should sin after sanctification be explained doctrinally, and how can it be prevented …

Doctrinal Peculiarities Of The Espistle Of St James, Milo Lee May 1953

Doctrinal Peculiarities Of The Espistle Of St James, Milo Lee

Doctor of Theology Dissertation

This dissertation has attempted to underscore, not only the fact that James has in 3:13-18 a classic passage on the fruits of true wisdom, contrasted by the fruits borne by the wisdom which is from beneath, but also the call to self-examination on the part of those who are engaged actively in the work of the Church to determine honestly before God whether or not they are living and working with that humble spirit which promotes true peace between God and man, on the one hand, and man and his fellows, on the other.

Father Anselm Weber, O. F. M., Missionary To The Navajo, 1898-1921, Robert L. Wilken

To Father Anselm Weber, 1862 - 1921, belongs most of the credit for establishing this Catholic mission at St. Michaels in Apache County, Arizona. In point of time he belonged to the first quarter of the twentieth century. As a missionary he has a rightful place in that long line of Catholic missionaries that ties together the centuries back to apostolic times.

Anselm Weber maintained a huge correspondence with his Franciscan confreres, with the Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions, with government agencies, and with a host of friends and relative. These letters and papers, preserved in five principal collections, have …
