Racisim And The Chrisitian World Mission, Joseph Ellwanger
Racisim And The Chrisitian World Mission, Joseph Ellwanger
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The thesis may be divided into four main parts. Chapters II and III deal with the history of racism. Chapters IV and V show, the interaction of the Church's world mission and racism upon each other. The goal of the thesis is reached in Chapter VI, where the Christian world mission in a world of racism and counter-racism is outlined. And the special study on South Africa in Chapter VII is an application of the findings of the thesis to the most crucial area of Western racism at the present time.
Education In Meaningful Worship For The Confirmation Class, Paul Wagner
Education In Meaningful Worship For The Confirmation Class, Paul Wagner
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The problem undertaken by the thesis is tied to this need for meaningful worship and the lack of materials. While books and articles have appeared from time to time, they have all been concerned primarily with phases of parish education other than the confirmation class. In Missouri Synod circles there have been only a very few significant works on worship education at any level. The purpose,, therefore, was to survey as many works in this area as time would permit and synthesize the findings into a workable approach toward the teaching of worship and the Liturgy in the confirmation class.
The Tennessee Synod--It's History And Church Polity, Alvin Kollmann
The Tennessee Synod--It's History And Church Polity, Alvin Kollmann
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
In considering the factors that played an important role in causing the establishment of the Tennessee Synod, it is necessary to consider the conditions in the Lutheran Church in .America especially during the years between 1800 and 1820. The conditions that must be considered are, in the order in which they will be treated in this chapter, rationalism, unionism, the language problem, the training of pastors, education and literature available at the time, and revivalism. A few observations on the pros and cons about the Tennessee Synod joining the General Synod or remaining out of that organization will then conclude …

The Hospitals Of New Spain In The Sixteenth Century, Jean Maxine Cohen
The Hospitals Of New Spain In The Sixteenth Century, Jean Maxine Cohen
Latin American Studies ETDs
It is the purpose of this study to present an account of hospitals and charitable institutions in New Spain during the sixteenth century. In order to gain a clear concept of this phase of the Spanish cultural program in the New World, it is first necessary to understand practices which originated in the realms of Castile as well as in other European nations, and were later transferred to the Americas. Such an initial investigation causes the modern reader to realize that the term "hospital" then involved much more than the medical treatment accorded today to those persons suffering from acute …

Bibliografía Provisional, Parcialmente Anotada, De La Literatura Panameña, Felix L. Figueroa
Spanish and Portuguese ETDs
La literatura panameña, es tal vez, la menos conocida de las del Nuevo Mundo. Pocos han sido los estudiosos que se han interesado por nuestra producción literaria, la que, aunque joven, no carece de significación dentro de las latras hispanoamericanas.
The Influence Of The Zwinglian Reformation Through Bishop John Hooper Upon The Church Of England, Milton A. Rohane
The Influence Of The Zwinglian Reformation Through Bishop John Hooper Upon The Church Of England, Milton A. Rohane
History ETDs
The influence of both Luther and Calvin upon the English Reformation has long been recognized by historians within and without the Church of England. They have been given credit for instigating particular men and movements to push for the further reformation of the Church of England. Little to no credit has been given to the work of both Zwingli and Bullinger and their influence on the leaders of the Church of England during the early years of the period of reformation.
In addition, Bishop John Hooper of Worcester and Gloucester has been neglected by the historians of the Church of …

Use Of Illustrative Materials In The Young People's Department Of The Church, Arthur W. Binford
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
Visual aids have played an important part in teaching methods of both the public schools and the church schools of today. Teachers would be under a great handicap if they could not use some kind of a visual aid to guide their teaching, especially in the beginners, primary, and junior departments of both the church and public schools. Visual aids are used in the public schools in the intermediate and high school age groups, but they have not been used in these departments in the church to a very large extent. The church has not provided adequate materials for this …
A Layman's Guide To The Pauline Epistles, Eric L. Kallis
A Layman's Guide To The Pauline Epistles, Eric L. Kallis
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
Much has been written on the subject of New Testament Introduction. An investigation disclosed the astonishing and revealing fact, that most of the Introductions which could be recommended to laymen were in old books which were no longer in print. It was also discovered that some which were available for laymen, were too brief in content as well as inadequate for comprehension. Some of the books were in too fine a print to attract the layman. Most introductions do not contain the message of the several epistles. Thus this study was undertaken.

An Analysis And Evaluation Of Religious Testing, Stephen A. Watkins
An Analysis And Evaluation Of Religious Testing, Stephen A. Watkins
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
There has developed in the field of secular education the extensive and successful use of testing devices to both measure and improve classroom instruction. These devices, too numerous to name, not only measure achievement, but also aptitude, personality, intelligence, personnel and many other factors. Religious education at one time made an effort to employ these devices but failed.
Therefore, the following questions need to be considered: (1) what were the trends of religious education when religious testing was first used? (2) what general attitude stimulated test development? (3) why was this movement abandoned in religious education while secular education continued …
A Historical Study Of Church Music Reform, Glen M. Buffman
A Historical Study Of Church Music Reform, Glen M. Buffman
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
Music has been and is an integral part of the life of the Christian Church. History reveals that from the very beginning of the Church, and on through the ensuing centuries, music has played a vital role in the worship of the Church, and has even had a part in the development of the expression of the Christian faith.
The contemporary Christian Church has evidences of producing a complex pattern of church music which is unprecedented in history. In the first place the church life of today has rapidly become decentralized, through the increasing emphasis on departmentalization of the Church …
The Doctrine Of Inspiration Of Scripture As Affected By The Jonannine-Synoptic Problem, Charles B. Morgan
The Doctrine Of Inspiration Of Scripture As Affected By The Jonannine-Synoptic Problem, Charles B. Morgan
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
Excerpt: "The theory which stresses that inspiration is at the level of words alone has caused problems to arise as textual and literary criticism is applied to the Bible. These problems focus attention on the nature of Biblical inspiration. It is the quality of inspiration which gives authority to the Bible. An authority must speak a word which is final and cannot be controverted. It must be, in some real way, inerrant and infallible. The nature of authority demands this. Thus, by logical necessity the Bible has been declared inerrant and infallible in order to sustain its' authority in respect …

This thesis is written as an experiment in instrumentation and the factors of technical limitations of the typical Class C high school band. The criteria used in determining the instrumentation and the difficulty of the composition are certain findings with regard to grading of high school band music as found in John Phillip Dalby's Doctoral Dissertation, A STUDY OF INSTRUMENTATION, MUSICAL ACTIVITIES AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCE AS FACTORS IN ARRANGING FOR HIGH SCHOOL BAND.

A Series Of Five Graded Selections For String Ensemble (Representing Development At The End Of Each Year For Five Years), Raymond M. Haslam
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The problem involved in this project is the composition of a series of selections for string ensemble. The series is comprised of five sections, each to parallel general achievement of the string students at the end of each year for five years. The degree of advancement one year over another is based not upon the slow student, nor the student who learns extremely fast. Nor is it graded to meet achievement of students who have been afforded a large amount of private instruction over the five years. Rather, it is based upon the growth and development, as observed by the …
The Life Of William Wirt Henry, Harvie J. Skelton
The Life Of William Wirt Henry, Harvie J. Skelton
Honors Theses
Many great historians contribute much to our heritage, literature and history, but the people of the United States of America fail to remember or recognize these men for their contributions because a historian's life is not considered exciting enough to write about. In the following chapters this author will attempt to bring to light the life of a courageous, dedicated man.
William Wirt Henry is probably best known for his literary masterpiece, The Life, Letters and Correspondence of Patrick Henry. His works and activities beyond that are numerous, but not generally known. Mr. Henry lived during this country's most turbulent's …
Man And Society In The Works Of Georges Duhamel, Sr. Mary R. Carter
Man And Society In The Works Of Georges Duhamel, Sr. Mary R. Carter
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Man and the circumstances influencing his activities have always interested Georges Duhamel. This concern developed from a profound desire to aid, to improve, and to cure the ills of mankind. Having become a physician, he was able to fulfill his wishes, particularly in his surgical experiences on the battle front where he treated thousands for all types of human miseries. [...] The aim of this study is to show the extent of Duhamel's understanding of the society of his time considering man as the active participant in its formation
Myth In Marlowe's Dramas, Agnes Therese Hinkley
Myth In Marlowe's Dramas, Agnes Therese Hinkley
English Language and Literature ETDs
To be intelligible to his age, a playwright must mirror and reflect the feelings and thoughts of the age, and Marlowe is no exception. How did Marlowe help shape Elizabethan myth through his imaginative use of myth in his dramas? How did he use Renaissance myths as the bases for his tragic conflicts? Two points of view are considered in this examination of myth in Marlowe's dramas: (1) the nature or the myth; (2) the structural importance of the myth
The Idea Of Nothingness In The Poetry Of Pedro Salinas, Julian Palley
The Idea Of Nothingness In The Poetry Of Pedro Salinas, Julian Palley
Spanish and Portuguese ETDs
This essay is an attempt to prove that a conflict or dialectic between Being and Non-Being, between love and nothingness, can be traced throughout the poetry of Pedro Salinas. This study is meant to be exhaustive only in this sense. There are many other possible approaches to the work of this fecund madrileño, and there is no suggestion that any of these are invalid. The virtue of any great work of art is that it can be examined from many different, even conflicting, points of view and each will retain its validity. The writer believes, however, that this dialectic is …

A Christian Teaching Concerning Bodily Healing, F. Bruce Chamberlain
A Christian Teaching Concerning Bodily Healing, F. Bruce Chamberlain
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
The problem of this thesis is to formulate a Christian teaching concerning bodily healing.
This study is important because many passages of scripture refer to bodily healing. One cannot overlook this area of truth and still have a general knowledge of scripture.
Again, this problem deserves serious attention because it is one of interest to every Christian. Many are directly faced with this problem when sickness or physical break-down overtakes them. Those who are spared this, meet the problem indirectly as sickness comes to some loved one. Thus this problem is more than a mere academic one, but is a …
A Study Of Isaiah's Use Of The Term Servant, Lowell Williamson
A Study Of Isaiah's Use Of The Term Servant, Lowell Williamson
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
This study is an attempt to clarify the wealth of material written on the subject of the servant, because so many adverse options have arisen. The recent findings of the Qumran Literature, or the Dead Sea Scrolls, has given opportunity to re-examine the interpretations of the servant passages. Very little material of significance is added to the study from the Qumran Literature, though the probable interpretation of the servant held by the Qumran community may be deducted from the literature. One result of these findings has been the greater confidence in the Hebrew Massoretic Text, now known to be the …
A Study Of Isaiah's Use Of The Term Servant, Lowell Williamson
A Study Of Isaiah's Use Of The Term Servant, Lowell Williamson
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
Excerpt: "In the eighteenth century, when the unity of the prophecy of Isaiah began to be questioned, a new wave of critical studies ensued. Among these were many views expressed concerning what was called Deutero-Isaiah (chapters 40-66). The dating of this section of Isaiah greatly affected the interpretation of the prophecies, especially those connected with the exile and all future events. As the early fervor to prevent workable theories of interpretation for those prophesies developed, it was evident that there was more unity to the writings of this section than had previously been held."

The Unity Of The Book Of Isaiah As It Is Reflected In The New Testament Writings, Theodore F. Dockter
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
The education of the minister is made rather complex by the great volume of materials and books that are made available to him. Many of these books that are being published follow the critical view while others present the Biblical view. The reader of these books must decide what he shall accept as true.
Many books have been published about Isaiah.. Some have held to the unity of Isaiah, while others have tried to disprove it and have torn the book apart. Most of the books that have been written have dealt with the problem from the Old Testament standpoint. …

A Study Of The Religious Behavior Of The Graduates Of A Selected School Of Nursing, Louise Maybelle Brown
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
This was a study of the religious behavior of the nurses who have graduated from a selected school of nursing. The purposes of the study were (1) to obtain information as to what the graduates of the selected school have been and are doing relative to their everyday religious behavior and practices, and (2) to ascertain to what extent, if any, this school of nursing has influenced the every-day religious behavior and practices of the graduates. Religious behavior was defined as that behavior which can be observed in public and private religious activities such as Bible study, prayer, church attendance …
King Arthur And The Alliterative Tradition, Lena Exum
King Arthur And The Alliterative Tradition, Lena Exum
English Language and Literature ETDs
Comparison of the Alliterative Arthurian romances reveals not only resemblances to other Middle English romances but also a puzzling uniqueness which sets alliterative verse apart from other poetry of the period. Alliterative romance is patriotic and pious. Although influenced by French romance, it clings to the original English heroes and to deeds pertaining to them or to deeds of the Romans; and it shuns French verse forms to use an alliterative line which has already degenerated and become obsolete. As Dorothy Everett points out, "the [alliterative] poets seem, in general, to have avoided love-romances and to have preferred historical, or …
Assifidity Days And Other Poems, Robert E. Rhodes
Assifidity Days And Other Poems, Robert E. Rhodes
English Language and Literature ETDs
I now believe at this end of this writing that there are three stages through which the poet and his poetry move in the accomplishment of any poem; stages in relation to this poet only, in development of these poems. Since we can agree that poetry is a highly personal statement (a dangerous thing in itself today), it is with poetry as personal statement that I would like to begin.

Dialectic As A Philosophical Method, Pierre Grimes
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Philosophy is the quest for wisdom and hence it may share a common end with religion. Not all philosophies are, however, concerned with this end, nor, again are all religions involved with a quest for wisdom. There may be different techniques and tools employed in the accomplishment of wisdom, but this dissertation is concerned only with the study of the nature and use of reason. In the philosophy of Plato reason is employed in diverse fields including mathematics, myths, and elaborate analogies, but when he turns to reason itself, then it becomes important to this analysis. Reason may be utilized …
