Three Hypotheses Concerning Art Nouveau, Ralph H. Gaede
Three Hypotheses Concerning Art Nouveau, Ralph H. Gaede
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
A style of art, known to us today as Art Nouveau, developed throughout the countries of western Europe during the 1890's. As a style, Art Nouveau had its effect in varying degrees upon most of the art forms: architecture, the applied arts and decorative design, painting, sculpture, illustration, bookbinding, printmaking, ceramics, jewelry-making, and other minor art forms. Then, after encompassing this wide variety of creative activity, the forms of Art Nouveau faded and died out just prior to the First World War (1910-1915).

Thou Shalt Keep Christmas: An Operetta For Upper Elementary Grades Or Junior High School Performance, Marion Gertrude Arends
Thou Shalt Keep Christmas: An Operetta For Upper Elementary Grades Or Junior High School Performance, Marion Gertrude Arends
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
Numerous operettas with Christmas themes, some sacred, some secular, some employing familiar carols, and some entirely original in both text and lyrics have been written for the elementary grades and junior high. There are many pageants depicting Christmas customs and using carols from many countries of the world. However, an investigation of available material has not revealed an operetta based strictly on carols and customs of just one country. The carols and customs of Old England three and four centuries ago are particularly interesting because of the fact that our founding fathers came from the shores of that country, and …

A Critical Survey Of Recently Published Beginning Piano Methods, Margretta Denouden
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
Pedagogy and materials greatly influence the results of all teaching. Changing cultural standards bring changing pedagogical techniques. Piano playing is no longer a luxury for the talented few, but rather a musical activity in which many participate. Today's piano teacher needs a method that achieves quick mastery because many attractive activities compete with piano practice for children's time.

A Commentary On The 'Terrible' Sonnets Of Gerard Manley Hopkins, Sr. Paul Augusta Trudeau
A Commentary On The 'Terrible' Sonnets Of Gerard Manley Hopkins, Sr. Paul Augusta Trudeau
English Language and Literature ETDs
My method of research was determined by the poet's method of writing. Hopkins does not use language as he finds it but wrings from words and word groupings as much function and meaning as possible. Thus, there are words in his poetry which fit poetically in context, but it is necessary to delve into their obsolete or other remote meanings to obtain an understanding of the precise idea expressed or to obtain its enriching implications. Because of this, my research began in the New English Dictionary, where even the seemingly obvious words were looked up to bring out the …
Calvinism In England During The Reformation Period As Seen In The Formularies Of The Established Church, Walter Sohn
Calvinism In England During The Reformation Period As Seen In The Formularies Of The Established Church, Walter Sohn
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The object of this thesis is to trace the introduction of Calvinism into the official and unofficial formularies of the Church of England during the Reformation period. Calvinism is defined as any distinctive theological teaching advocated by John Calvin, the leader of the Reformed Church during the middle of the sixteenth century. The official formularies were the confessional statements and prescribed forms of worship ordered to be used in the established Church by the English monarch. The unofficial formularies were theological writings approved by Convocation of the English clergy. While used in the Church, they had neither the approval of …
States Of Suspended Decay In The Works Of Edgar Allan Poe, Alan W. Stringer
States Of Suspended Decay In The Works Of Edgar Allan Poe, Alan W. Stringer
English Language and Literature ETDs
It is the purpose of this study to examine a particular set of closely related physical and mental states of characters and special states of nature found in the imaginative works of Edgar Allan Poe. I have found it most convenient to refer to these conditions as states of suspended decay, through other critics have used various terms such as suspended animation, life-in-death, or the suspended death-in-life or life-in-death of reverie to distinguish what seems to be essentially the same phenomenon in Poe’s works Although it is difficult to settle upon a term, suspended decay is perhaps the most inclusive …

The Concept Of Hope In First Peter, Frederick Naumann
The Concept Of Hope In First Peter, Frederick Naumann
Bachelor of Divinity
Peter again relates his ethics to his certain hope. Peter is positively certain that the inheritance. is ready, prepared and preserved by God, and need only be revealed. There is no "maybe;" no "if''' in Peter's thinking. The masterpiece is under a canvas, all that is to be done is to have the canvas lifted. In this light of certain culmination of his expectation, Peter sets forth his ethics. Everything is viewed in the light of this hope
Minnesota Missionary--Minister : A Biography Of Heinrich Julius Mueller, Henry Charles Mueller
Minnesota Missionary--Minister : A Biography Of Heinrich Julius Mueller, Henry Charles Mueller
Bachelor of Divinity
It is with a deep feeling of respect for my great-grandfather and a desire to praise the God whom he worshipped and proclaimed that, I undertake this brief biography. So far as I know, this is the first extended attempt at writing a biography of this pioneer Minnesota missionary. There are several very short biographies extant, but I found no extended works available. My grandfather often mentioned that his father was humble and did not look for publicity. This is quite evident from the paucity of material available on this man.
