A Generational Myth: Counter Culture, Edmond Temple Jan 1973

A Generational Myth: Counter Culture, Edmond Temple

Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects

The past decade has witnessed a startling number of youth movements. The conflict created by youth culture has been distinctive if only for the generational divisions it has highlighted. Large numbers of social scientists have written on this phenomenon from many perspectives. One classical theoretical perspective is Marxian theory. As it emphasizes the role of classes as revolutionary agencies, it has had a difficult time assimilating the actions and implications of youth culture. Parsonian functionalism has focused on the functional character of youth movements (Eisenstadt, 1956). The most salient feature for functionalism is the formation of distinctive groups among a …

A Study In Visual Emotional Response To Color Changes On Simplified Flat Forms, Frances Farmer Jan 1973

A Study In Visual Emotional Response To Color Changes On Simplified Flat Forms, Frances Farmer

All Master's Theses

Research has proven that the impact of two-dimensional painting and drawing occurs in the first tenth of a second on viewing. All viewing thereafter is investigative. Therefore it is of utmost important that the major response be in this period. This interest in the firm, momentary presence of visual impact has precedence in Milton Avery's work as related by Hilton Kramer in his text on Milton Avery. To make the use of color as the basic mainspring of my work seemed to be the most effective way of gaining this time response. With this in mind I intended to produce …

Self-Actualization: A Process Of Leisure, Michael Kean Mcleod

All Master's Theses

This study presented an exploration into alternative values for personal growth that exist in leisure. A Structural Comparison Of Traditional Opera And Music Drama, Charles H. Stephens

All Master's Theses

This paper presents a structural comparison of traditional opera and music drama. It uses Wagner's criticism of traditional opera, and his plan of incorporating the individual arts into a unified art form, to contrast the two forms. An identification of motives from a section of Wagner's Die Walkure further demonstrates the unifying factors in music drama.

The Face As An Inspiration In Drawing, Linda Lee Stevens Jan 1973

The Face As An Inspiration In Drawing, Linda Lee Stevens

All Master's Theses

My primary concern in drawing is the human element. The face has been the inspiration which enabled me to convey this element. These faces (contrived from photographic media) became individuals with the ability to transmit emotions (which are triggered by their human forces). This power of the face has inspired the utilization of spatial relationships and imagery which becomes the total drawing. The magical quality in drawing is similar to the mystical quality of the face - they both provide a spiritual challenge.

The Box Image In Edward Taylor's "Preparatory Meditations", Curtis Colburn Torp Jan 1973

The Box Image In Edward Taylor's "Preparatory Meditations", Curtis Colburn Torp

All Master's Theses

From 1682 to 1725, Edward Taylor, the parson of the frontier community of Westfield, Massachusetts, wrote some 217 poems which he entitled: "Preparatory Meditations before my Approach to the Lords Supper. Chiefly upon the Doctrin [sic] preached upon the day of Administration." Twenty six of these "Meditations" contain a "Box" image.

It is the purpose of this thesis to show how and why Taylor used this seemingly unpoetic metaphor to focus his thoughts on the subject of his meditations -- Christ's Incarnation.

Frontier Consuls: Americans In British Columbia And The Yukon, 1880-1906, Clyde William Tucker

All Master's Theses

Many of the important questions whose resolution shaped twentieth century Canadian-American relations developed out of real or imagined conflicts of interest in the Pacific region during the latter part of the ninteenth century. The United States had no diplomatic representation in Canada, but consuls in British Columbia and the Yukon kept the Department of State well informed of developments which affected American interests. With emphasis on the period between 1880 and 1906, this paper describes the roles played by the consuls in the definition of problems that arose from disputes over boundaries, resource use, smuggling and extradition.

Michelangelo Songs: Characteristics Of Style And Interpretation, Dennis David Daigler

All Master's Theses

This paper presents an analysis of the style characteristics found in the songs of Hugo Wolf, a great composer of German Lied. His style was greatly influenced by Wagner's harmonic and vocal practices. Wolf continued earlier composers' concerns with the proper expression of poetry through music.

An interpretation of the Michelangelo Songs shows Wolf's attempts to achieve balance between the voice and piano. A study of them is rewarding for a singer.

Once the violin and bow had been restructured to meet those demands, many new violin playing techniques were introduced.

A Study Of Selected Walt Disney Screenplays And Films And The Stereotyping Of The Role Of The Female, Jerry P. Houseman

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Given this large involvement that children have with motion pictures, an educator is moved to inquire into the possible effects that movies might have upon them. Statement of the problem:

This study attempted to (1) analyze the five screenplays listed on page 6, (2) show two Disney films based on the screenplays analyzed to groups of children and administer a questionnaire to them. The investigator used the obtained data to determine …

The Divine Nature Of God: A Study Of What Has Been Said And Taught About The Divine Nature Of God By Ancient And Modern Apostles And Prophets, Lester Young Moody

Theses and Dissertations

In this thesis prominent teachings of the apostles and prophets were examined on the subject of the divine nature of God. The Correlation Program Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints During The Twentieth Century, Jerry Rose

Theses and Dissertations

Within recent years the priesthood correlation program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has received significant emphasis from the leaders of the Church, so much so that it has been regarded by some as a new forceful program for the perfecting of the Saints. However, research reveals that the principles of priesthood correlation have always been a part of the restored Church.
The purpose of this thesis is to write a history of the correlation program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with particular emphasis on the period 1908 to February 1972.
