Radical Republican Citizenship For A Mobile World, Alex Sager
Radical Republican Citizenship For A Mobile World, Alex Sager
Philosophy Faculty Publications and Presentations
Migrants invariably and unavoidably experience domination under the nation-state centered concepts, categories, and institutions that structure our political thinking. In response, we need to build new forms of citizenship, including local, regional, transnational, and supranational forms of belonging, accompanied by meaningful, democratic, political power. In this paper, I examine historical and present-day alternative models of political organization as possible viable alternatives to state-centric liberal democracy. It begins the task of assessing these models using radical republican theory that grounds non-domination in the active and equal participation of people subject to power. I have three broad aims. First, we need to …

A Poetic Call For And A Reflection And Commentary On Clarity, Understanding, Hope, Courage, And Compassion, Carroy U. Ferguson
A Poetic Call For And A Reflection And Commentary On Clarity, Understanding, Hope, Courage, And Compassion, Carroy U. Ferguson
Psychology Faculty Publication Series
Finding a published poem I had written as a teenager, titled “The Heavens Weep.” this article uses that poem as the basis for a commentary that reflects on the state of the world today (2026), As a commentary, the article uses the poetic and metaphoric words in the poem as a relevant "reality check" for what is still going on today. In essence, the commentary is about a call for Clarity, Understanding, Hope, Courage, and Compassion, or what I call Archetypal Energies, Higher Vibrational Energies that operate deep within our individual and collective psyches to creatively urge us to "see" …
Identification Of Inhibitors Of An N- Monooxygenase From Aspergillus Fumigatus, Kendra B. Bufkin, Pablo Sobrado
Identification Of Inhibitors Of An N- Monooxygenase From Aspergillus Fumigatus, Kendra B. Bufkin, Pablo Sobrado
Arts, Languages and Philosophy Faculty Research & Creative Works
The flavin-dependent N-monooxygenase SidA from Aspergillus fumigatus catalyzes the conversion of l -ornithine to N5-hydroxy- l -ornithine. This product is incorporated into hydroxamate containing siderophores, which are iron chelators required for growth during A. fumigatus infection in mammals. The activity of SidA has been shown to be required for siderophore biosynthesis. Here, we used a colorimetric product formation assay to screen a small-molecule library for the identification of potential inhibitors of SidA. Ebselen, an organoselenium compound, was identified as an inhibitor of SidA. This compound inhibited SidA with an IC50 value of 11 ± 1 μM. Ebselen derivative, …

From Centralized To Decentralized Care: Assessing The Role Of Design In Cardiovascular Unit Performance, Lindsey Fay
Interiors Faculty Publications
This report presents a comprehensive pre- and post-occupancy evaluation of the University of Kentucky HealthCare Cardiovascular Unit, conducted through a collaborative effort between the College of Design, College of Communication and Information, UK HealthCare, and GBBN Architects. The study examines the transition from a centralized to a decentralized care delivery model within a newly constructed hospital environment, with the goal of understanding how spatial design influences healthcare delivery, staff performance, and patient experience.
Using a mixed-methods approach, the research integrates quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques, including behavioral mapping, communication tracking, pedometer data, acoustic measurements, and staff and user feedback. …

Racialised Gradients Of Human Value And Marx’S Working Day, Today, Anthony F. Peressini
Racialised Gradients Of Human Value And Marx’S Working Day, Today, Anthony F. Peressini
Philosophy Faculty Research and Publications
This paper reconsiders the ‘working day’ discussion in chapter ten of Capital and how it centres two parameters in the generation and appropriation of surplus value. The first parameter is the cost of labour-power paid by the capitalist and the second is the time that the worker must yield to the capitalist: the ‘length of the working day’. The first parameter represents the amount of pay required to keep the worker alive and able to work. Marx understood it as a lower limit below which capitalism would cease to function. This paper argues that, while analytically coherent, this understanding of …
