This master’s project documents the analysis, conservation, and collaborative stewardship of Hodínöhšö:ni:h basketry at the Seneca–Iroquois National Museum (SINM), housed within the Onöhsagwë:dé Cultural Center. The project represents a continued partnership between SINM and the Garman Art Conservation Department at SUNY Buffalo State University and addresses both immediate conservation needs and long-term collection care planning.

The multi-phased study included: (1) a condition survey of 115 mold-affected baskets (2) elemental analysis of selected pigments and materials using handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF); (3) microbiological sampling and preliminary identification of fungal species present on select baskets; (4) the development and implementation of a …

This project centers around three albumen landscape photographs from the 1870s and 1880s. The three photographs all display severe, yet visually different foxing and staining. The project explores the cause of the foxing on each photograph and how that affects the photographic structure. The analytical techniques utilized were technical imaging, x-radiography, optical microscopy, x-ray fluorescence mapping, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, and microflora isolation.

Medieval chroniclers sometimes borrowed entire passages from earlier works, adapting old words to describe new people and events. Christopher Berard examines this understudied practice and shows how such borrowing could be more than a shortcut, allowing writers to draw meaningful connections between the past and their own times.

This dataset reveals the heretofore hidden contents of fan magazines (fanzines) related to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien that were created from 1969 through the publication of Tolkien’s The Silmarillion in 1977. It supplements the earlier Tolkien Fandom Review by S. Gary Hunnewell that discussed fanzines created through 1968. The dataset provides an item level index of the fanzines’ content and is intended to aid researchers in Fan Studies. Decolonization is a term often used to present a simple shift from colonial thinking, heavily maintaining the establishment of colonial systems today. However, this usage oversimplifies and overshadows the word’s key purpose. Common proclamations of the term forgo the fundamental indigenous essence behind the word. Doing so, we not only strip the word of its inherent power, but obstruct further possibilities for actual decolonization to appear in our world.
