The interwar period from 1918 to 1939 saw Poland and the United States contend with major international and domestic questions regarding Jewish emigration. In a matter of twenty years, Polish policy developed from protecting its Jewish minority to actively persecuting it in political, economic, and social spheres with radical antisemitism. In the United States, immigration was limited post-1924 because of a nationality-based quota system introduced by the Immigration Act of 1924. Despite diplomats arguing for increased numbers, American officials’ position remained strong on limiting immigration, continuing unchanged as an understanding of Polish-Jewish plight became clear in the 1930s. These films can provide an understanding of how the feelings and attitudes of the American people shifted and evolved as the Cold War progressed. This work will examine a small sample of these films, focusing on one film from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. This project uses psycholinguistics—the systematic measurement of psychological orientation through language —to examine political communication from when Trump took office in his second presidency to the start of the Iran war—January 20, 2025 through February 28, 2026. I asked whether elite political language during this period reflects what Robert Putnam calls bonding social capital (inter -group reinforcement) or bridging social capital (cross-group connection), a dichotomy relevant to theory of democratic depolarization. To answer that, I scraped 16,707 documents —7,409 of Trump's Truth Social posts and 9,298 White House, State Department, and Department of Defense press releases —an d scored each …

This project examines whether frontier Large Language Models (LLMs) can serve as structured “expert critics” in economic and legal reasoning. I built a panel of AI judges composed of GPT-5.5, Opus 4.7, and DeepSeek V4, to evaluate three antitrust merger retrospectives: Carlton et al. (2022) on AT&T/Time Warner, Hazlett and Crandall (2024) on T-Mobile/Sprint, and Argentesi et al. (2021) on Facebook/Instagram plus Google/Waze. Using a 10-factor weighted rubric, the panel scored each paper on empirical alignment, parameter robustness, counterfactual validity, dynamic adaptability, and analytical rigor. Psychology gave us the Dunning-Kruger effect, the observed pattern that a person is often overconfident when they fall in the lowest quartile of that skill’s proficiency. This research is interested in seeing if large language models (LLMs) suffer the same miscalibration of metacognitive skills. Using thirty deliberately ambiguous college-level math question prompts, this research assesses Claude Sonnet 4.6’s ability to interpret each question, provide an answer, and rate its own confidence without asking for clarification. Results show that while confidence appropriately drops at the moderate tier, it rebounds on the hardest questions (0.840) even as accuracy falls to 0.450. This …

In this thesis, we implement a testbed for multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems via GNU Radio. Specifically, we implement a configurable framework for the construction of MIMO-OFDM software-defined radio (SDR) systems as a GNU Radio module. The GNU Radio MIMO-OFDM module consists of multiple algorithmic blocks necessary for implementation of a MIMO-OFDM system. This includes a library for the generation of orthogonal or pseudo-random pilot sequences, amendments to the Schmidl-Cox protocol for MIMO synchronization, and the creation of click-and-drag GNU Radio blocks implementing the conversion of arbitrary data sent via external programs to MIMO-OFDM frames, the initial …

Japan’s underground car culture is often associated with street racing, JDM, and modified cars, but these visible features developed from broader economic, social, and regulatory conditions. This paper argues that Japan’s underground car culture was shaped by three factors: postwar economic growth that made mass car production feasible, social identity and status attached to car type and driving behavior, and government regulation of the road system and driving habits that forced reckless driving into less visible times and locations. From "The Second Shift" to Claudia Goldin’s Nobel Prize-winning research on women in the labor market, the inequities affecting women in the labor market have been widely documented. However, progress on this issue has been largely one-sided on behalf of women, perpetuating gender inequality. The goal of my research is to understand how social subgroup values influence male-identifying Gettysburg College students’ predictions on how they will engage with parental leave. This project gathered information on ways to increase male uptake of parental leave, which, if implemented, will help improve gender equity in the labor market.

This paper analyzes poems from Ocean Vuong's 2016 debut collection, Night Sky with Exit Wounds, as a contemporary evolution of queer modernist poetics from the early twentieth century. Using conceptual frameworks from Sara Ahmed and Audre Lorde, the author argues for the cultural power of poetics as an inherently queer art form which artists are constantly redefining. By studying how prominent lesbian and queer modernists disrupted heteronormative ideals through non-conformist poetic strategies, the author develops a comparison to Vuong's work as a contemporary queer poet who both draws from past forms and develops a more nuanced understanding of queerness …

In Western frameworks, addiction is often treated as an isolated condition, where the individual is blamed for their actions. Since OpenAI’s famous rollback of GPT-4o for being “overflattering” in April 2025, sycophancy in large language models, which reflects the tendency to prioritize user satisfaction over truthfulness, has become a major concern in AI alignment. Sycophancy is widely recognized as a byproduct of Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) and deserves attention in educational contexts where such responses to student errors will reinforce misconceptions. Whose Ethics? Auditing The Moral Defaults Of Large Language Models Against Ubuntu Philosophy, Davelle Akosua Ampofo-Twumasi

As LLMs are deployed globally, the moral framework they u se matters. This study tested if four frontier LLMs default to Western ethics and how naming Ubuntu, a communal Southern African philosophy, changes their moral reasoning. Five dilemmas were presented to Claude Opus 4.7, GPT-5.4, Gemini 2.5 Flash, and DeepSeek V3, unprompted and with Ubuntu named. Responses were scored on seven Ubuntu dimensions (e.g., relational inclusion, dignity, reciprocity). All models defaulted to Western individualist reasoning when unprompted. With Ubuntu named, DeepSeek (57/70) and Claude (56/70) significantly outperformed GPT and Gemini (32/70 each). Gaps were largest in reciprocity and relational inclusion. …

Abstract: In 1945, Polish historian Zygmunt Lakociński embarked on a project to “document the truth against all myths.” Following the arrival of 7,300 Polish former prisoners, 6,000 of them women, to Sweden after liberation, Lakociński created the Polish Research Institute Archive (PIZ). The result was a collection of over 500 highly detailed and corroborated witness testimonies of Nazi war crimes at the Ravensbrück concentration camp. From its interview procedures and methodology to the composition of its staff, the Polish Research Institute Archive was utterly unconventional for its time. Preparing for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is among the most demanding academic challenges facing pre-medical students, yet access to professional tutoring remains prohibitively expensive for many. This paper describes the design, implementation, and iterative evaluation of an AI-powered tutoring system built using Claude Code, Anthropic’s command-line interface for the Claude large language model, intended to serve pre-medical students directly, whether or not they have access to a professional tutor.
