This mid-nineteenth century autograph book, titled "The Jenny Lind Album," was (according to the inscription) presented to Alice J. Cornell by her brother, Christmas 1852. The hardcover album book is full of messages, many of them poems, written to Alice by friends and family. It was printed with several picturesque engravings in its pages like “Balboa” as “Drawn by P. F. Rothermel” and “Engraved by J. Sartain."

Music was crucially important for early Adventists it was the place where beliefs could find musical expression in corporate worship settings. Accordingly, the first hardcover book published by James White was a hymnal in 1849. However, it was a very small book only containing 53 hymns accordingly more hymn books would soon follow. This hymnbook published in 1852 contained not only 139 hymns but also a supplement that contained an additional 38.

This treaty, signed on September 17, 1851, was an essential agreement between the United States government and representatives of the Lakota, Dakota, Cheyenne, Arapaho, Crow, Assiniboine, Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nations. In this treaty, the United States acknowledged that the area surveyed by the treaty was Indigenous land and recognized each nation's exclusive territorial rights over a portion defined by geographical boundaries. Equally, the tribes agreed that the US government had the right to establish roads and posts—military and other—within their territories.
