John Warwick Daniel was born on the 5th of September, 1824, in Lynchburg, and died on the 29th of June, 1910. Only sixty-eight years of life, a short period when one measures the span of a lifetime and yet he crowded into these years so much that he has rightly come to be called soldier and orator, jurist and lawgiver, statesman and senator. As a soldier he was brave, loyal and devoted to duty, winning many honors for courage and gallantry. Whe n King James began to fear the preaching of Sir Edwin Sanys and the meetings of the Virginia Company, believing that the seeds they sowed were too democratic, he felt sure that the dissolution or at least the royal control of the Companyw as a necessity. He therefore attempted to interfere in the election of the treasurer but failed. Enraged, he commanded Captain Nathaniel Butler to write a libel entitled "The Unmasking of Virginia", which held the Virginia Company responsible for all the evils in America.

The boundary disputes between Virginia and Maryland were due mainly to the haphazard way in which the King of England granted the land in the New World, but the lack of geographical knowledge, on the part of the commissioners of the colonies, and later of the states, aided much in furthering these disputes, which covered a period of about two hundred and fifty years (1632-1894), and were only ended by a decision of the Supreme Court of the United States.
