This presentation explores the life and work of Duncan Hines from his days growing up in Warren County, Kentucky, through his career as a travel writer, and finally to his rise as a brand name in the world of packaged goods. The presentation highlights scenes from The Kentucky Library and Museum exhibit “Recommended by Duncan Hines.”

Two letters, 25 September and 27 October 1918, from Franklin, Kentucky native Drucilla Jane Short to her brother, George D. Harris, serving with the American Expeditionary Forces in France. Letters contain comments about family, business, the influenza epidemic, and the impending overseas deployment of their brother Downey. The letters were returned after George's death on 13 October 1918.
