Finding aid and typescript (Click on "Additional Files" below) for Manuscripts Small Collection 2866. Letter, 9 April 1863, of John O. Campbell, 45th Pennsylvania Infantry, written from Paris, Kentucky to friends. He comments on both the beauty and destruction in the area, on Confederate sympathies, especially among the women, and how they should be punished, and on camping at the Bourbon County fairgrounds. He also comments on local members of the Clay and Bacon families and on U.S. Senator Garrett Davis’s support of reprisals for disloyalty to the Union. Includes associated data on Campbell and his regiment.

Letters of Ohio County, Kentucky native Dee Carl Perguson, written to Marjorie Clagett, his French teacher at Western Kentucky State Teachers College, during his World War II military service and afterward. He writes observantly of military life while training in Ohio, Georgia and Pennsylvania, of his experiences while serving in North Africa and Italy, and of his reassignment to Florida after suffering an arm wound. The minutes of the Caverna (later Horse Cave), Kentucky Board of Trustees from 1871 to 1892. Full text of the minutes, in 50-page increments, can be seen by clicking on "Additional Files" below. The community was known as Horse Cave, but changed its name to Caverna in 1869 and later changed its name back to Horse Cave in 1880. Stray material was scanned where it was found in the minute book; blank pages were not scanned.
