Certificate, 23 February 1842, signed by 16 citizens of Leesburg, Kentucky regarding curious hair growth on the thumb and fingers of Penelope Stout. Although none had witnessed the hair growth, all believed it to be true based upon the testimony of others and the “character of the family,” the latter observation implying their practice of sorcery or witchcraft.

Embric to be a lunatic. The finding states that Embric exhibited the first symptoms of an unsound mind on 21 April 1880, that his place of birth, residence and parents are unknown, and that he is incapable of laboring for his support.

Writers must learn to control factors that influence the ability to focus, especially in what some call a culture of distraction. In our efforts to promote metacognition and flexible writing processes, writing teachers need to engage students in study and discussion of factors in our temporal, social, media, social media, and attentional environments that influence focus while composing. Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

While there have been many studies of Henry James's ghost stories, there has been surprisingly little scholarship written on postcolonial tensions in these works. In American literature, the figure of the Native American ghost is a common expression of Western settler guilt over native erasure and land seizure. In both his American and British ghost stories, though, James focuses more on the horror within the colonizer than the terrifying, ghostly other from the edge of the empire. As such, these ghost stories serve as a more significant critique of colonialism and imperialism than Gothic texts that merely demonstrate the colonizer’s …
