In fulfillment of the requirements for the University of Northern Iowa’s Women’s and Gender Studies Applied Track Master’s Degree, this paper includes research conducted during a 200-hour internship experience with Cedar Valley Friends of the Family, consisting of three sections: a background paper, the agency report, and reflection. The research conducted for this project was done so utilizing a manual and scoring tool provided by the Vera Institute of Justice in order to measure Friends of the Family’s capacity to effectively serve survivors and clients with disabilities, as well as suggestions for short and long-term improvement.

Superheroes have always been a large part of my world. For too many Halloweens than I’d care to admit, I donned the same pink Power Rangers costume. Watching the costumed heroes never failed to entertain and inspire me as they protected their city and often times the planet. When the Power Rangers were busy, the X-Men took their place alongside Superman and the Justice League. Representation Of Lgbtq Characters In 2019 Young Adult Literature, Janelle M. Snyder

This qualitative content analysis study examines the representation of LGBTQ characters in 10 young adult literature published in 2019 in light of rising numbers of self-harm and suicide among youth who identify as LGBTQ. Novels were identified using the WorldCat Online Database and the search delimiters of year of publication, LGBTQ, young adult, and fiction yielded 30 novels. Every third novel was randomly selected, narrowing the sample. Internet sensation and pop music star Poppy’s 2018 sophomore album Am I a Girl? stands out in an increasingly oversaturated pop landscape, thanks to evocative imagery, cleverly ambiguous lyrics, and daring genre crossovers that challenge conventions of contemporarypop music. Despite the album’s titular question, Poppy is not interested in being defined—instead, she seeks to transcend definition and exist in the space of questioning.On the album, Poppy explores concepts like gender, class, and consciousness in a way that pushes the boundaries of pop, deconstructing her genre, while also deconstructing the issues she sings about—and offering a vision for a future that …

On March 5, 2020, soprano Taylor Dengler and pianist Dr. Korey Barrett presented a recital of song literature in Davis Hall at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The first half of the program comprised three sets of Italian music. It opened with Ilia’s aria, “Zeffiretti lusinghieri” from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s (1756 - 1791), Idomeneo, and was followed by two song sets by Gaetano Donizetti and Giacomo Puccini. The second half of the recital consisted of “Bester Jüngling,” another Mozart aria, from Der Schauspieldirektor, a selection of four Felix Mendelssohn songs, and Libby Larsen’s song cycle “Cowboy …

Western Media Coverage Of International News: A Content Analysis Of Associated Press Coverage Of Africa, Adukwu Samuel Atadoga

This study examines how the Western media frames its coverage of Africa and this impact on Westerners’ views of Africa. To develop the hypothesis and provide the data needed to answer the research questions, I reviewed the literature on framing, the determinants of international news coverage, as well as international media coverage. Newspapers were my data sources, and using LexisNexis with the key word “Africa,” I searchedthe online news service of the Associated Press(AP). Thissearch yielded 1,000 articles and was reduced by including only those published between January,2015 and January,2016,and then using random sampling. The final number of articles analyzed …

Kenneth Silver (a.k.a. Kenneth A. K. Lönnqvist), is a historian and professional archaeologist, who has lived and worked for decades in the Near East. With extensive publications on Hellenistic and Roman archaeology, history, and numismatics, Silver is the director of a survey and mapping project in Northern Mesopotamia studying the border zone between the late Roman/ Byzantine Empires and Persia. Author of numerous publications on Qumran and related topics, Silver’s lengthy monograph proposes that the documents and type of library found at Qumran were based on models derived from Egypt.
