This study showed that Lenora Mattingly Weber did not change the personalities of her characters over the twenty-six years. The characters had the same basic character traits in all of the fourteen novels in the Beany Malone series. Mrs. Weber included more minority characters in her later novels. The characters were stereotyped by their sexual roles throughout the fourteen novels.

For this research the author was concerned with the portrayal of males in literature; more specifically, the characterization of boys in children's books. The researcher wanted to find out if boys are represented realistically and if the characteristics of boys in fiction have changed over time. The books selected were fiction and the reading level ranged from fourth to sixth grade. The main character of each book was a male figure of approximately ten years of age. There were two time periods from which the books were selected. One grouping was from 1959-1963 and the other from 1970-1974. Other books …

A creative project has been undertaken for a learning experience in order to better understand and appreciate past and contemporary works of fiction and attendant problems of fabulation for the ultimate purpose of improving guidance of students through literary studies. The project, a novel, demonstrates an attempt to dramatize part of the contemporary phenomenon of the individual's search for "self" within a family whose members rebel against or accommodate themselves to varying perceptions of authoritarian endoctrination and expectation. There were two parts of this study. The first part involved a determination of the status of women. Occupation, education and income criterion were used and it was concluded that educationally and occupationally, women were increasing their status relative to men. But the income of working women in contrast to men employed in the same fields was at an all time low. The central locus of the low occupational status of women was seen to be in women's continual choice of pursuing traditional female jobs. Using Mordecai Marcus's ''What Is an Initiation Story?" and R. W. B. Lewis's The American Adam to define the loss of innocence, this study follows the protagonists of three Robert Penn Warren novels-- Wilderness, World Enough and Time, and All the King's Men--through their steps from innocence to knowledge, initiation, or the loss of innocence. A similar pattern is seen in the lives of Adam Rosenzweig, Jeremiah Beaumont, and Jack Burden. Unamuno, although a member of the so-called Generation of '98 in Spain, outreaches the other members of this group in certain aspects of his works, They were primarily involved with the problems of Spain itself after the Spanish-American War, and Unamuno in his work went beyond this to explore Being; to explore the existence of the individual in its deepest and most far-reaching aspects.
