This project explored the inculturation and vitality of faith that made the mission of ancient Syrian Nestorian Christianity into China possible. My research is summarized into four discoveries:

1. the discovery of the history of missionary journey, religious exchanges and the theological connection between Nestorian Christianity in Syria and Jingjiao (or the “luminous Religion,” which is the historical Chinese name of Nestorian Christianity) in China;
2. the discovery of Jingjiao documents;
3. the discovery of fundamental Christian doctrines in Jing-Jiao documents;
4. the discovery of Jingjiao relics in China, which …

Historians on the Ku Klux Klan have only recently begun to re-examine the place of the Klan in American history, coming to the unsettling conclusion that the Klan and its message were more widely accepted than many previous historians acknowledged. However, this new revisionist history of the Klan lacks any thorough consideration of the experiences of Klan victims. In my thesis, I examine how Black and Catholic newspapers from 1916-1922 describe the activities and ideologies of the KKK so that I can then compare their accounts of the Klan with …

I argued that Poland was the central issue at the Yalta conference and that the Big Three alliance deteriorated as a result of the agreements reached on Poland. I believe that understanding the public reception of the Polish agreements is important in understanding the history of the Yalta conference. Based on the rhetorical strategies of important Argentine nationalist figures, this project proposes some possible sources imbedded within the Argentine historio-cultural imagination that provided a fertile environment in which these ideologies could take root and flourish. Allen Ginsberg began producing provocative poetry in 1955 when he first devoted his life to writing. There was even a court case in 1957 to decide whether or not his most famous piece, Howl, should be banned for its content. All of this press made Ginsberg a famous poet; however, he also had what he called an “amateur hobby,” his photography.

The following paper examines Sir Walter Scott’s historical novel, Ivanhoe, which was published in 1814, in terms of the social attitudes persisting during the Middle Ages when the novel takes place. Specifically, the paper analyzes Rebecca, a multi-faceted and subtly heroic character, by placing her into historical context and using the relevant social attitudes to inform her accusation as a witch. Throughout Ivanhoe, Rebecca’s perception as a witch is compounded by her identities as a medical healer, a woman, and a Jew, which accurately reflects the attitudes towards these identities that existed during the European witch hunt in …

An nineteenth-century Chilean writer, Fr. Camilo Henriquez was a fascinating figure—a Catholic priest whose religious beliefs more closely aligned with Deism, a prolific proponent of Chilean independence, and, for a short while, the president of the Chilean Senate. Because of his role in creating La Aurora, the first Chilean newspaper, Henríquez is often considered the “father of Chilean journalism” and the “mentor of the revolution." But to understand his role in the Chilean independence movement, we must juxtapose him with Thomas Paine, the pamphleteer extraordinaire of the American Revolution.
