Bonhoeffer On The Interaction Of Theology And Philosophy: Christological Redescription, Joseph D. Carson
Bonhoeffer On The Interaction Of Theology And Philosophy: Christological Redescription, Joseph D. Carson
Montview Journal of Research & Scholarship
Setting an example of philosophical theology in his own writings, Bonhoeffer can help contemporary theologians navigate the interaction between theology and philosophy. Predominantly discussing Sanctorum Communio and Ethics, this essay outlines how Bonhoeffer offers a paradigm of Christian engagement with philosophy. Bonhoeffer utilized the insights of philosophy by (1) critiquing its idolatrous nature and (2) Christologically redescribing its creative concepts in service to theology. Giving an account of Bonhoeffer’s critique and positive use of philosophy, this essay argues that Bonhoeffer’s paradigmatic view of theology and philosophy is a helpful resource for contemporary Christians. Specifically, a dialectic of antithesis and …
Animals And The Predator Motif In Dracula, Mary Ray
Animals And The Predator Motif In Dracula, Mary Ray
Montview Journal of Research & Scholarship
In Bram Stoker's Dracula, animals are used to reflect the ferocity of the titular villain. A variety of animals are used, including wolves and bats, which have now become part of vampire lore. At one point in the novel, Dracula even uses a human to fulfill his bidding. However, as dangerous as a man is, Dracula is more powerful and sinister predator. He is defeated only when multiple men band together with a plan to kill him. The first instance of fearsome animals occurs at the very beginning of the novel, when Jonathan Harker arrives in Transylvania. Right at …
Is God Responsible For Sin?, John Wesley Holmes
Is God Responsible For Sin?, John Wesley Holmes
Masters Theses
Does sin actually exist without the presence of divine commands? Without a rule can there be a violation? If sin results from violating a divine command, then the assignment of responsibility must fall on the one issuing the commands. However, if God is responsible for sin, then the core of Christianity must be questioned. This thesis confronts the accusation that God is responsible for sin by establishing commands that are foreknown to be violated. This paper will demonstrate that God is not responsible for sin and show humanity to be accountable for individual choices. Demonstrating human responsibility for sin will …
Improving Sight Reading Through Beginning Band Instruction, Joshua Earl Kohl
Improving Sight Reading Through Beginning Band Instruction, Joshua Earl Kohl
Masters Theses
Aural skills training needs to be included in the beginning band curriculum. Educators strive to help students reach their potential. At the same time, they continue to use method books that emphasize a visual approach to music education. Through aural skills training, such as audiation, students will be able to internalize and hear the music they see without the need for an audial stimulant. This study defines the current amount of aural training included in …

Invasive species are a major issue around the world and more specifically in our U.S. National Parks. Ranging from plants to insects to animals, invasive species are a greater threat than many may imagine. The impact that invasive species have on an ecosystem encompasses more than taking over a native species’ environment; it includes competing for food, water, and other resources, as well as having an adverse effect on our economy and threatening us with deadly diseases. Many factors lead to the cause of spread of invasive species, but all point back to human interference, from purposely spreading invasive species …

Wheels Of Love: Turning Souls To The Saviour, Amy Leah Berry Magaw
Masters Theses
This paper is written to explore the success of The Hallmark Movie Pattern. The famous female-lead romantic-comedy genre shines through their network when set against the backdrop of the Christmas season. Though many critics chastise the network for its cheesy repetitive storylines, the Hallmark Channel continues to hold the majority of the viewers every Christmas season. The franchise has, however, alienated some of their viewership by introducing the gay/lesbian agenda into some of their storylines, opening the door for Christian filmmakers to move into high demand. New Christian film streaming services such as PureFlix can now offer films that exceed …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Many Christian churches have been experiencing declines in attendance at Sunday services, Bible studies, and prayer meetings, and have experienced the affects of an apathetic attitude toward Christian community engagement. The lack of teaching scripturally accurate Biblical doctrine and applying scripture to daily life has led to a sharp decrease in discipleship. By examining the attitudes and reasons contributing to this lack of Christian participation and scriptural understanding, pastors and other church leadership can address the specific rationales for not living the scripture in daily life. Through the advent of a discipleship program an increase for the desire of congregants …

Using a bibliographic methodology, this thesis is a theological and missiological defense for the microchurch model as a solution to the limitations of the prevalent Western attractional model to effectively live out Jesus command to be a community of disciples making disciples. The declining western model is proving insufficient in a post-Christian, post-Christendom world to fulfill the intended role of the church. And as more churches are continually planted, if the erroneous presuppositions responsible for the decline of the church’s efficacy are not amended, there will be no lasting change regardless of how much effort and money is invested.
