For the past two centuries theologians have discussed the pros and cons of Wesley's doctrine of Christian perfection. Many have voiced their opinions in favor of it, maintaining that this high ethical ideal is certainly to be supported because there is the possibility of attainment; others have discredited it most severely by contending that such a Christian goal was not possible in this world, in this life, so long as the flesh of man was united with the soul of man.

Roman Catholicism, regardless of the impression it might give, is a genuine threat to the religious freedom guaranteed in the Federal Constitution. We shall not attempt to judge the validity of the American form of government. That we take for granted. But our purpose is this: to determine the extent of the liberty guaranteed in the law of the land; to point out apparent agreement and obvious discrepancies between liberty and the Vatican; and to cite the practice of Rome as evidence of her intolerance and the Papacy's authoritarian principles.

One of' the perplexing problems in the field of New Testament Introduction is the relationship of the first three Gospels to each other. A careful reading of these Gospels rcvea1s that they are much alike and seem to have much in common. There are many similar or strikingly similar events in all three. Then, too, there are clearcut differences. The Evangelists who wrote these Gospels tell us nothing concerning how their writings were related to each other. Luke alone says something about how his Gospel came to be written. Apostolic testimony on these three Gospels is something unknown to us.

Thus, if we are the outcome and the expression of times and institutions surrounding us, we cannot hope for a ministry intelligently possessing self-knowledge or vitally correspondent with its environment, unless the qualifications for power are investigated relatively to contemporaneous institutions and prevailing conditions of thought. And it is in this spirit that we discuss the qualifications for the ministry as outlined in a selected portion of Scripture. For Scripture is the sole rule and norm in spiritual values; and Scripture's application is changeless and timeless.
